Today is a public holiday in my small part of the world. That means another day, another big batch of pooches to exercise. That was what I did this morning. It seems a more productive thing to do than drink beer, barbecue (although I like a good steak and cold beverage) and think about my heritage (which is mostly Scottish with a tiny bit of Irish and Welsh thrown in for good measure). It's thirsty work on a hot day like today, but so worth it. 🥵 I am grateful to have one of the best jobs in the world. Playing with pooches is literally part of my job description. I do it every Saturday and most public holidays, come rain or shine, hot or cold. Fortunately, snow isn't a feature. Plus, it's good exercise (although I could do with more of it, including going for a run at least twice a week): I worked out that I walk at least three kilometers while I'm there, going from kennel to kennel, letting dogs out and putting them away. The more dogs to exercise, the more I walk (and sometimes run, if they're particularly energetic or have been slotted in for a weight-loss regimen).
I am convinced that if everyone played with cats and/or dogs, particularly kittens and/or puppies, at least once every day, the world would be a better (calmer, gentler and kinder) place than it currently is. It would certainly be less stressful and a lot healthier.
"... Studies have shown that pet ownership can enhance fitness levels, lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels, relieve stress, improve mental and heart health, and boost overall happiness and well-being. Evidence also suggests that connections to pets provide good social support — an important factor in helping you stick with new health habits."
