Although the fiasco of Youtube censoring and terminating youtube crypto related videos and accounts, and giving them back after Christmas, seems to be over, there is much more to it, that needs to be pondered on. Some awakening feeling that is to be seen in some of the affected users, is what I am pointing at.
The one that I am referring today is Chris Dunn who has, in my opinion, the most sharp knife cutting attitude, from all of them. He has had his account censored like everyone else, videos taken down like everyone else, got all that back... like everyone else, but he seems to go on a different path.
While the majority, embracing the majority mindset, are happy to have their toys back and get back to playing with the camera for some bucks a video, he did the opposite. In his latest and probably last youtube video is inviting fellow crypto youtubers to team up and do something about the youtube censorship, that showed its sharp and ugly teeth a few days ago, and created the premise for a similar future action.
For this man it is clear that, yes there is a strong need for decentralized social media platforms, and that there should no longer exist censor and similar behavior in the year 2020 and in the future. Hence he expressed his motives and determination towards moving his content on to other ways of reaching out to the public. Ways that can't shut down an open mouth, willing to educate people, and to be able to talk free on anything.
That's what makes me say that youtube, one thing is clear, your actions haven't been left without reaction and sooner or later more and more youtubers will follow the suit and leave your platform for better alternatives. Yes, for now, Steem and its DTube or threespeak might not be strong direct competitors, but such situations or similar ones might transform them in such.
Lets not forget that youtube wasn't that renowned and well established either, ten or fifteen years ago, and times always change. The time of decentralized financial systems and decentralized social media platforms might become a reality sooner than later, and without even knowing, products like youtube, that somehow created the niche, but on communist pillars, might help them become a reality at a faster pace than imagined.
One thing that I learned, especially since being involved in crypto, is that demand makes the price of a product, and if youtube is such a valuable and desired asset nowadays, it is due to its high demand and popularity, when other products will see their demand increase, value and desire will be directed towards them and that's when Steem, as a token, will appreciate...a LOT, and the blockchain along with its apps will be used world wide.
I know that one youtuber deciding to leave the platform that proves to not be trustworthy and free of censorship anymore, is not much, but it is a step towards what most of the crypto enthusiasts have dreamed of. A world where no third parties getting their cut for their intermediate bidness, low fees for services, and freedom of speech are part of daily life's normal. Yes, although we currently have tons of ways to sharing thoughts and ideas online, there is still a strong censorship, that enacts when triggered.
Hope Chris will inspire some other crypto content creators on youtube to take action and, at least cross post their videos on decentralized platforms, if not quitting youtube once and for all, like he did. I know that youtube in some cases is a way of making a living, but when it's terminating your account, where's the living?
Thanks for attention,
Adrian
