There have been several talks of a decentralized version of Twitter for a couple of years now, and it seems that Jack Dorsey’s latest version of Twitter entered the Apple store back on Feb. 17. They all want to kill Twitter and "put Elon Musk out of business".

Even Meta, the company behind Facebook and Instagram is working on an alternative to Twitter. They even have the audacity to claim it will be "decentralized", although many of us already know about the shady past of Facebook and what a scum Suckerberg is.

“We’re exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. We believe there’s an opportunity for a separate space where creators and public figures can share timely updates about their interests.”

These were the words of a Meta spokesperson, and according to watcherguru, which spread the word on the topic, "the platform will allegedly support ActivityPub, the decentralized social networking protocol behind Twitter rival Mastodon, and other applications". Hmmm, the big boys want a piece of the Twitter pie and they wanna cook it the Hive style, decentralized...

So, the new app, or better said the potential future new app coming from Meta and aiming and eating twitter's lunch is going to have all the goodies that Twitter currently rocks, "tappable links in posts with previews (like Twitter), user bios, usernames, and verification badges".

Moreover, images and videos would be made shareable on the initial versions of the app and even though the like and follow features will be there, it's not yet clear whether features for commenting and messaging will be available in the initial version of the product. Chances are they will all be added eventually.

There's a catch that the media outlets discussing the topic are missing and I'm here to reveal it to you... They(Meta) actually don't really care that much about creating an alternative to Twitter for just the sake of that as it is payments and money transfers that Meta might be more interested in, by rushing such app into production.

Elon Musk has recently discussed bringing payments, aside from tips, to Twitter, and somehow continuing the business he was part of at PayPal, through Twitter, and Meta wants a share of that pie. It is clear to me that social media is no longer what it used to be and we are now witnessing a blending of the payments system with the current social media apps which is a clear indicator of the new way we will be dealing with money in the future.

Hive is already there in the trenches with this one. We already have monetized social media apps, almost instant transfers/payments with zero fees, and a decentralized alternative to Twitter, but crypto-related media outlets refuse to see it. I guess they do not benefit from talking about Hive, otherwise, I don't see the reason for their silence.
