Fungibility 2.0

Fungibility 2.0

The crypto market is in the green once again, Bitcoin has managed to "crawl back" over $19k, HIVE's going good as well and I just got my refund from the mess I got into yesterday with Binance.

Cryptocurrency is a marvelous technology. I said it so many times on my blog and will say it for as long as I live, it's that good money that Hayek was talking about many decades ago. Through blockchain technology and cryptocurrency, we can once again take back the "plenty of freedom" we lost on the way to the Bitcoin store(civilization).

I managed to make a living out of crypto and this thing makes the world to me, thus I try and look at whatever piece of the puzzle crypto has the ability to redesign so at the end of the transition times we are currently going through we would have a fairer and more enjoyable life(complete puzzle) on earth.

NFTs have been the trend of the trends in the past bull market and some say that crypto gaming is going to steal the show in the next one, but if you remember, back in the early days of NFTs, these have often been called the new ICOs, meaning that not too many believed they'd exist some good years after the concept was launched.

I still consider that most of the NFTs in existence are crap, but I do believe in the longevity of the functionality of such tech and I also consider that when coupled with smart contracts we will see these revolutionize almost everything on the planet. I have often talked about the tokenization of everything and my take is that NFTs will play an important role in that regard.

A couple of months ago I had a talk with a local businessman who's a friend of a friend of mine and while chit-chatting on almost shit you can imagine, we at some point got to approach crypto as well. He says that it's not palpable thus not having intrinsic value, although he owns some... But you know what, I've heard that so many times by now.

He recently bought himself an apartment in Niece, France, and he kind of did that so he can have his own vacation house, but he plans on renting it as well, especially when all sorts of sports events such as the Formula 1 Grand Prix and tennis matches take place in Monaco. Niece is a cheaper option if you don't really want, or have the funds to pay for Monaco accommodation.

His idea is great, but what if that apartment would have somehow been sold as a series of NFTs and "more than just one owner" would be the landlord, and the NFTs that would attest to one's share of the apartment would be resalable? What about that?

Well, how's that even possible? It's not that complicated, you know, the apartment can be sold as NFTs while taking into account the seasonality... It would be like "owning it for 30 years" for one month a year and that would cost you something like $50,000 and the NFT that would grant you "such possession" would be worth $50,000 in ETH or whatever other token.

Or the price could be simply settled in crypto, thus making such business even more fun due to volatility...;). You need some smart contracts to do that and you also need regulations that would accept smart contracts instead of papers in order to accept the sale and ownership of such property "as legal".

The one "owning the apartment" for a specific month every year for a specific time frame can rent his share of the apartment and so on... Or he can even sell his property in the form of that NFT he bought for a profit and someone else would become the owner of the tiny portion of such residence he once owned. You see, blockchain technology has endless possibilities and smart contracts coupled with NFTs can regain the trust we have lost in current governance systems.

Crypto doesn't have to be just about buying low and selling high, we need to get over that and dive more into functionality, otherwise, we will be at the mercy of the regulators for a long time ahead. Oh, and another what if that stroke me...

What if instead of buying yourself a one-bedroom apartment in your town/city you can buy such "a type of ownership" in a way more expensive apartment in some exotic place that can be rented and with that revenue you can pay the rent of a one-bedroom apartment in your own town for the whole year and still be left with some cash?

Take everything you just read with a grain of salt... I haven't thought of furniture, maintenance, etc... :). I'm just playing with my imagination here. The takeaway is that we often overlook the immense potential cryptocurrency has and get distracted too much by price action. We have to once and for all separate these apart... Hope everyone is having a fantastic day and see you in the next post.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
