From The Bad To My Worst Investment Ever

I know that talking college, money for college, and why is it my worst investment ever might not be quite suited for leofinance, but what can I say... Peakd is non functional for the moment, Hive is out of service for days, and I will definitely not upload photography through this interface.

I am going to talk education for a bit, and I've been inspired to do so after watching a youtube video on motivation, living on a purpose and earn your living the sweet way and that's probably why I'm pumped up but a bit frustrated at the same time. My compass got decalibrated since eight grade, if I'm being honest, and what came after that was one bad decision after another... in terms of education of course.

Starting with high-school, although I always was good at literature, philosophy and foreign languages I chose t study math and computers in college. Why? Because most of my class mates were getting there and my father dreamed of having an IT specialist in the family, if piano didn't seem appealing to me. It's not abut high-school though, because it would have been the same money spent to study either math and IT, or getting any other degree.

College though managed to dig quite a whole in the family's budget, because in Romania it's usually the parents that pay for studies and you don't get loans like in the US to pay for your school, nor need to work your ass to be able to attend higher education. In this regard I didn't even failed from the first try, so you know.

I first applied for studying some sort of environmental chemistry, and got accepted, just to realize after a semester that... neah, that's not for me. Was fighting with too many teachers, too late at school, sometimes on a hangover, and basically making even the slightest effort for nothing, as the diploma from that college wouldn't help me at all when I pondered seriously on my future after a potential graduation. Hence I quit it...

Next year got into studying Journalism...

In my mind I was almost certain that I'd become a good editor and I'd write about cars, related sports, and even tech for some renowned magazines in the country if I get to study journalism. All that just to realize that the media was not just clear skies, clean and easy to penetrate as I thought, while seeing myself spinning in the same vicious circles that would keep me partying way more than I would attend classes, and although I was passing exams due to my quite fast learning...

I ended up graduating a college that didn't love, having a diploma that's practically worthless and spending my parents hard earned money for nothing. As I said: my worst investment ever from almost every point of view and by taking any imaginable metric in the equation.

Not against education, so you know. I am encouraging young folks who are close to graduating high-school to first and foremost pursue their dreams and passion, and if those involve some sort of a college and a diploma they should definitely go after em no matter the cost. Loving what you do and doing what you love is a gift that very few are blessed with, or have worked for. Most of us unfortunately are living on default, or going with the flow.

As a conclusion, acknowledging that college is my worst investment ever I would still encourage young ones to go to college and get their diploma if that means following and fulfilling their passion and dreams. I disagree with people saying nowadays that you don't need a diploma anymore, or the ones saying that you can not make it in this society without one. It depends on the person. Just don't fall in the trap I did, or if you had done that teach your kids a lesson so they won't follow your steps.

Thanks for attention,
Adrian
