I blog on steemit for 2 years, a 72.6 reputation over there and I used to love that platform. let's move back, I have been blogging since 2004 on blogspot and I have created content online even before that, 1998 when we had BBS (Bulliten Board Systems) which if you are not 70s maybe you haven't heard of!
So I love writing, I've been a journalist for a period of 5-6 years and I'm addicted to writing. Google brought me up with a hillarious tool called blogspot to write more professionally and Adsense delivered a way to monetize my content. What is more beautiful than earning money from what you really love? nothing!
For these reasons I love Google! thank you big G for all the things you brought me :)
But then, this crypto thing came up and seduced us all! decentralized monetary system, full of transparency and security and cutting edge technology, bloackchain thing, innovative and lovable! I was an early adopter, no wonders!
Now, the blogging communities had the new opportunity to become more agile and rocking! direct monetizing system based on crypto and blockchain. This was how Steemit born.
Steemit, the beauty
It's very easy to talk about steemit's beauties:
- blockchain based
- direct incentives and monetizing system
- independant wallet and coin
- no censorship and more privacy
- decentralized, well, somehow
As a blogger, what else you need? I tell you: engagement
real engagement by real people, real readers, real and meaningful comments, ability to learn from your readers and grow your knowledge. I am pretty sure nobody likes those meaningless "good post, keep it up" comments and "check my blog" spams!
steemit's first problem was here, were many users were begging for attention and if they see your pocket (well, size does matter!) then they would try to catch more of you. and here it goes:
Steemit, the ugliness
Well, I could manage the meaningless comments and low engagement rate in steemit, but I encountered this: Reward Pool Rapers
People on steemit gather in groups, power up their wallets and vote on each other! not all do this, but some are enough for the manipulation of the whole system. I'm not talking about small accounts like mine with 10 or 20 thousands of tokens, but I'm talking about whales. that sounded like a suicide to me, and it is.
So it's not important how good and qualified you write, it's about who knows you and who you return the favour.
Steemit, the curse
OK, if you think you can handle the ugliness in a trade off with the advantages on steemit, you should read this: Bid Bots and the Flag mechanism
I believe these are steemit's cruses which can bring the whole platform to death... I say this with absolute regret...
Bid bots are generating wrong information on the system and on top of that, inflation to the tokens. the economy of steemit is heavily under influence of this inflation, caused by the bid bots.
Selling and buying votes is ironic. it's useless. they shouldn't ruin their future with these mistakes for something maybe they call it free market.
and the Flag system, seemed to be something productive in the beginning, but the way it went on, it cause flag wars and non-productive attitude among the members of the community.
Publish, the new lovable social media
There are all the reasons to love this platform in common with steemit, but many more not to become skeptic and hateful!
I admit there are still many things to be done here too, but as for now, I see no better alternative online. my list of reasons:
- Publish will not be a new territory for BOTs, hopefully
- Publish will let your old postings able to monetize old posts
- Publish is not affected by the size of your pocket
- Publish is not limited to one token
I hope Publish improves in many other ways ofcourse. I will keep up with suggestions and issues in next posts. and I appreciate your comments truly.
