The Debt of Blood (Part 1)

Marko is in Sarajevo. His grandfather is on his deathbed and tells him a secret he has been hiding his entire life. The grandfather gives Marko an old watch and tells him to go to his birth village in Herzegovina.

Grandfather Jovo: "Marko, my son, be careful because there is no coming back..."

Marko goes to the village and opens his family house. As soon as he steps through the door, the smell of dampness hits him. Marko enters and wipes the dust off the table. He finds a photograph, and on it is his grandfather's brother, Ilija, about whom the grandfather didn't talk much. He would only say: "He died a long time ago."

Marko took the photograph and hung it up. He went for a walk and met an old lady. He said: "Good day." The lady returned the greeting and asked: "Whose boy are you?" He said he was from the Lazić family, and his grandfather is Jovo. Marko asked her what had happened in this village a long time ago. The lady answered rudely: "I don't know," and slammed the door.

Marko remained in shock. He went on his way and met grandfather Ivan. The old man called out: "How are you, lad?" and asked whose he was. Marko answered him. Grandfather Ivan invited him into the house and poured him a brandy (rakija). Everything was fine until Marko asked what strange thing had happened in this village. Grandfather Ivan turned pale in the face and just changed the subject.
