MonsterQuest is one of the new 2022 GameFi to be launched on the BSC network. In this article I'll show how I consider it to be a good project to follow in several aspects: Tokenomics, Artwork, UX and Beta Test process. If you are interested in the GameFi industry, don't miss this potential Gem.
MonsterQuest will hold IDO on Jan 15th. Players need to participate the sharing event to be whitelisted. (1000 slots available)
Tokenomics Overview
"The devil is in the details". Before investing in a GameFi, we always need to check on the whitepaper to understand how the team organizes the project and its own roadmap.
Firstly let's look at the Token Distribution. The distribution is the art of balance.

As we can see 50% of tokens are planned to be used in gaming experience, a.k.a play-to-earn(P2E). The remaining 50% are for pre-sale, marketing and development.
Pre-sale is to attract the first group of players and investors to join the project. Without the first group of players, the game cannot have high quality beta tests to gather opinions and suggestions. And with pre-sale, the project gains exposure which reaches out to more potential players.
As for Marketing it's crucial throughout the project. If you asked me, the marketing should be a steady process instead of a huge boom for the GameFi industry. The GameFi ecosystem needs to be fine-tuned at runtime. It's healthy to have a steady growth of players.
Secondly we can check on team wallets. It is about investment security.

When a project clearly reveals its addresses, it means the team has nothing to hide. All transactions can be traced on blockchain to see if any unexpected behavior happens.
And MonsterQuest does more than that. In the documentation they explicitly share the team's token vesting numbers and corresponding time-lock including Core Team, Marketing and Platform Development.
In this way the dev team cannot sell or transfer tokens before the time-lock ends. They can only utilize the vested tokens for the project purpose.
Finally, let's check on the Economic System.

In White-Paper, they call it the Argus Economic System. I personally asked one of the project founders, it's named after the inventor who is a scholar specializing in Actuary and AI.
To make things easier to understand in the article, I drew the above mind-map to demonstrate how it works.
MonsterQuest has both USD-based and token-based mechanisms inside the game. For the USD-based part, it leverages Argus Economic System to provide stable ROI. Players earn the same USD value free from game token price fluctuation. Whenever a player joins the game, he/she spends the same initial investment to buy Monster NFT.
And due to less concern on token price changes, players should put more focus on NFT rarity which results in different ROI expectation. It's always a good idea to have better quality NFT.
As for the token-based part it is quite simple. The $MQST tokens are required for all in-game metaverse behaviors. You need to exchange for the token first before playing the game.
Artwork
The worldview of the game is sometime long after our current era. The main character, yes it's you, who is displaced to an unfamiliar planet to find own destiny.
This is a screenshot I made when playing in the beta test drawing a new card. The artwork is a kind of fantasy RPG based on the world setting. Monsters can be beyond your imagination.

If you draw a card rarity above "Legendary", there will be a glowing effect around the card. (Click on the image to see the animation)

According to the MonsterQuest battle strategic design, players need to choose opponents to fight against. You will encounter various kinds of enemies with different elements.
And I found out some enemies have their own charisma. It'd be great if I can "recruit" them to work for me. Not a bad idea right?

User Experience(UX)
Most current GameFi are web games. And web games have their own limitations to create high quality UX.
For MonsterQuest, I am quite impressed by the efforts they put in the front-end. There are animations between battle scenes which enhance immersive in-game experience.
Moreover, I saw many friendly reminders before I made important in-game decisions or transactions. You don't need to worry if you are not familiar with the game because it educates players online.
Beta Test
The last part is my observation in testing the beta game. Several takeaways:
- MonsterQuest created a private beta test channel in Discord to organize test feedback.
- Devs interacted with the community everyday for questions/bugs/suggestions.
- Complete patch logs and updates - v1.1, v1.2, v1.3...etc.

Checking on the fixes notes and updates above. Anyone who is familiar with engineering should know it's well organized.
I believe all beta testers can feel the devotion and the professionalism of Monster Quest Team. Of course we can never say a project can eventually be successful or not, but we can tell if that's a great team we can rely on.
