block network connections for Firefox only to stop local files from accessing the internet due to links/javascript within the file.

open firefox
in web search bar: about:preferences
search: network --> click settings (gear icon)--> click manual proxy configuration --> http proxy box type "0.0.0.0" and use an unused port such as 9999 --> check "also use this proxy for https" --> click ok -->done

  • now you can use firefox offline while using another browser for your internet. i use this method to view pdfs or html files without connecting to interzones

  • Currently there is no solution for blocking internet access on a per process basis that I have found. All solutions on stackexchange.com are not solutions and do not work so don't waste 3 hrs of your life. I do believe there is a solution, but the forum losers wont post it. If a 3rd party program is offered as a solution, i do not count that as a solution. i know there must a way to do this.
  • in the mean time. i found a way (though the forum people can't seem to understand the concept ie "why would you want to do that mentality") to block internet access from firefox while opening files you saved from online (ie bestcakerecipe.html).
  • i use a seperate browser for my internet access. This works with a vpn running as well.
  • why is it so hard to find useful info now? seems like this should be super easy thing to do
  • I want to add: if anyone knows how to do "blocking internet access per application/program/process on linux" please comment with link or the solution. Required to have actually tested it yourself because there is a lot of bs floating out there.
