Financial 3-Legged Stool
Disclaimer - I am not a Financial Advisor, just providing insight into what I have been reading and learning about based upon current market conditions!
Back in the late '70's and early '80's the US Government created a new retirement tool called the 401(k), it was part of the 3-legged stool to help Americans retire with money. Well lets review how that stool is doing today in 2020.
Leg 1 - the Pension system, the US pension system is nearly completely missing, as US firms have not been offering nor funding these pension funds for years if not decades. The real crisis can be found that most if not all Pension funds do not have enough funds to cover their current obligations.
Leg 2- Social Security is underfunded and due to belly go up 2034 by the US Gov. own reports. While Leg 3- 401(k) most American's don't save enough even when they have a certain percentage matched by employers. Reviewing the funded and unfunded liabilities with the governance stool scared me. So, this got me thinking over the past year that I need to take steps to learn and perhaps get assets into other baskets.
I put in much thought effort creating my own retirement 3-legged stool using Gold, Silver and Crypto's. Its constructed around Hard assets that are kept outside the Fiat system (as much as possible) as the above stool are all items in the same basket and funded with the same Fiat currency. And upon further research I found that ALL Fiat have a history of failing at some point in time. I would rather be early than 5-minutes late to any event involving fiat collapse.
My own DIY 3-Legged Retirement Stool built around the following:
- Gold - The currency of Kings
- Silver - The currency of commerce or money of gentlemen
- Cypto's - The currency of the SCIFI age and inflation hedge for the
My goal will be to start moving out of Fiat $ into hard assets, a small percentage to offset perceived coming inflation risks and while protecting against fiat issues. I would like to get to a point where we have 2-5% in Gold, 2-5% in Silver and 2-5% in Crypto's (of course this doesn't account for wild market swings) just an overall average. I believe this will position provides us with two stools not just one and perhaps a bit of piece of mind too.
In Summary after considerable thought, on how too protect as much of what you have accumulated outside of the system as possible I came up with a new (new to me) 3-legged stool built on Gold, Silver & Crypto. What are your retirement stool legs? I would be curious as I am open to continuing to learn.
Enjoy the Journey!
