Here are some of my beloved gaming moments!
Okay, my list is vastly incomplete. But I'd make many pages worth of text if I tried to list everything. Here are some of the most important achievements I've ever gotten.
My top list
Fear the Wraith
Yes! I did it! Today I got to rank 1 as a killer in Dead By Daylight. Despite only using Wraith without even relying on The Ghost add on, today is the day my rank became 1. It was a tough and toxic journey against those pesky survivors, but I got what I deserve. Although I don't think there are any special awards for going this far.
How did I get rank 1 as a wraith user, considered a trash-tier killer? Spamming the aura reading purple add on, mixed with either the ultra-rare silent bell or the purple wind runner. These have been my perks: Barbecue and Chili, Corrupt Intervention, Hex: Devour Hope and Hex: No Escape From Death. Even though I'll still often lose against the best SWF groups, this is one of my favorite gaming achievements ever.
Top Lane Vel'Koz
Back when there were five divisions for each rank, reaching Diamond III was incredibly hard. Each match was as fun, intense and challenging as it gets. I was closing in on Diamond II and I honestly think I could have gotten it, but unfortunately that season ended. Two more days was all it would have taken... It's fairly far though, so I'm okay with that!
Rise to a mediocre RTS player
One of the things I had sucked for most of my life was playing strategy war games like Age of Empires. It was only after nearly three decades of being alive that I finally started getting better. Obviously my skill is still considerably low when we're talking about competitive players, but long gone are the days of being squashed like a fly in just under five minutes.
My friend convinced me to play Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition with him. Even though I got better as a RTS player, it's really far from what I'm used to playing, like Age of Empires II or Starcraft II. Resources and military tactics are handled in a much different way. But because I've boosted my confidence, I can at least comfortably play with him even though I'll lose almost every match. I must say though, the game got an incredibly good development boost.
Beating the Warcraft II campaign
It's old as hell, but Warcraft II - Tides of Darkness is the first game that really got me addicted. All day, I'd play the demonstration version with only three maps of each of the two factions. That went on for a few weeks, until I finally got the retail version, which was superbly translated to my native language. That was also when I first got truly immersed in a game's lore. Beating the game as a kid was my first real "hardcore gaming" experience, which I'm still proud of.
Playing Heroes of Newerth competitively
Before you ask, no, we didn't break through any tournaments, although we would often get second or third place. But that environment was wonderful. We'd get together online every day to practice as a team. I was certainly not the star, playing as secondary support most of the time, but it was a dream come true in a way. Good times I won't ever forget.
What's next? It's Donkey Kong
There's still so much to do, but I've got my eyes set on the next prize: winning as Jump Man. Donkey Kong is not just a cult classic, but one of the first gloriously competitive games for high scores.
You'd think there's not much to it, but after having looked through a video explaining it's more advanced mechanics, I really want to have at least beaten the game once. It's supposedly very hard to do finish it, so I'm not going to spend time trying to get a competitive high score. It's just that, now, not having beat it makes me feel like I'm missing out on something crucial.
