So i set up a website where you can make a paper wallet and other kind of not cloud wallets for you to use. You are more then welcome to help me add more coins to the list but it has to follow the rules below.
First of all, the currency must operate on similar algo/blockchain with the already added currencies.
The following info is required:
name, networkVersion, privateKeyPrefix, WIF_Start, CWIF_Start
These can be gathered from communities or you can search on your own by looking through the coin's source code.
If you don't know the coin's source code, then follow the steps below:
Each currency use a specific prefix in both public address and WIF private key as a marker of validity of the address.
We need to find them to generate valid wallet for your currency.
You could find those directly in the source code of software wallet, but it's easier to extract them from actual addresses.
If you are curious, you can find more details here: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Technical_background_of_version_1_Bitcoin_addresses
1. Download and run a wallet software for your currency
2. Copy a public address (usually in the "receive" tab)
3. Open the index.html file on your local browser OR go to your website which is hosting the paper wallet
4. Run the following command (press F12 or right click->console) with the address you just copied:
You should get a hexadecimal number like 0x1e. This is the network version.
As i said its a free service and it lives from donations that you can find on the donation page where there will be an address at the coin that we take for donations.
If you have a coin that isn't listed please leave the above information in the comments and i will gladly go ahead and add it to the list so you can make a wallet for that coin.
I want the website to support all the coins possible.
1. Is it safe?
We try to make it that way ! The core of the tool, that generate the keys is 99% the same as the well reviewed bitaddress.org. We only changed it to be able to generate addresses for different crypto-currencies.
We think that having a unique generator for multiple currencies lead to a much better reviewed tool for all than having a myriad of half-backed generators. Changes made to this generator are available on Github in small and divided commits and those are easy to review and reuse. Crypto Paper Wallet use the same security measures as the original project. All-in-one html document, no ajax, no analytics, no external calls, no CDN that can inject anything they want. And trust us, we have seen some nasty things when reviewing some wallet generator.
advantages of a paper wallet are multiple:
⇒ They are not subject to malwares and keyloggers
⇒ You don’t rely on a third party’s honesty or capacity to protect your coins
⇒ You won't lose your coins when your device break
Once you have generated and printed a wallet, you can send coins to the public address, like for any wallet. Store your paper wallet securely. It contains everything that is needed to spend your funds. Consider using BIP38 to secure your paper wallet with a password.
You will need to import your private key in a real client, that you can download from the currency website. The exact method to do that will depend on the client. If there is no integrated method, you can usually fall back to the debug console and use the command “importprivkey [yourprivatekey]“.
