I never liked Litecoin. Let’s get that out of the way. Its founder, Charlie Lee, sold off his entire Litecoin stash, citing conflict of interest. If that doesn’t shake confidence, I don’t know what does. Add to that a weaker community than Bitcoin Cash and zero real utility—I’m honestly struggling to find why it still exists.
In fact, the only value I’ve personally found in Litecoin is shorting it on Sonic Blockchain to earn Sonic Gems—click here to earn Sonic gems. Beyond that, Litecoin feels like a relic from crypto’s past. And now, with Dogecoin’s rising popularity, I think it’s time to ask the tough question: Is Litecoin about to be outpaced by Dogecoin?
Dogecoin mining has recently become more profitable than Litecoin mining due to its higher block rewards and favorable market prices. Dogecoin miners receive a consistent reward of 10,000 DOGE per block, while Litecoin miners only earn 6.25 LTC per block since its recent halving.
Dogecoin’s fixed reward of 10,000 DOGE ensures consistent mining incentives, which is further supported by its unlimited supply. In contrast, Litecoin’s supply cap of 84 million coins and reduced rewards have made it less appealing to miners over time.
Let’s compare profitability. With Dogecoin currently priced at 0.30 dollars per DOGE, miners earn 3,000 dollars per block. Meanwhile, Litecoin’s 6.25 LTC reward, at a market price of 100 dollars per LTC, only yields 625 dollars per block. The numbers speak for themselves.
Another edge Dogecoin holds is merged mining. Since both Dogecoin and Litecoin use the Scrypt algorithm, miners can mine both coins simultaneously without additional energy consumption. However, with Dogecoin offering greater immediate rewards, it’s becoming the preferred choice for many miners.
Electricity costs also play a significant role in profitability. Miners operating in regions with cheap electricity, like China or Iceland, see higher returns. For miners in places with high electricity costs, such as Germany, profitability is much harder to achieve.
Litecoin’s narrative of scarcity and stability feels outdated in a crypto market driven by sentiment and adaptability. Dogecoin’s community, profitability, and real-time appeal position it as a serious contender, even as it started as a meme coin.
So, is Litecoin finished? Not yet, but Dogecoin is definitely racing ahead. I’m betting on the winner. Not financial advice, though.
What’s your take? Let’s discuss. And if you’re curious, you’ll find me over at Sonic Blockchain, happily shorting LTC.
