New Blockchain game - TownStar (beta)

There is a new game on the block. And you all know how much I love Blockchain games. I came across this as a Brave Browser popup ad. So far it is pretty fun. I am going to walk through what it is and how to play it.

1st thing is to create an account.

2nd thing is to pick where you want to create your farm. I picked middle America in the heartland 😊

With that out of the way you need to start collecting resources and building various things. You start with a very modest wheat farm. 2 Wheat fields and a Wheat Farmer are standard along with a silo to store your wheat and some other things. Each Wheat field grows continuously because the farmer will get water from the Well onsite and water the plants and then harvest the wheat when it is grown. One of the first things I did was build a 3rd Wheat Field.

In my plot of land, I have a lot of trees. It costs $300 to remove just one plot of trees. The game starts you off with $25,000. I bought a Lumberjack for $2,500 to start cutting down the trees. I also planted a tree farm for when all my annoying trees are gone, he can just use the farm to gather wood.

The next thing I built was a Windmill because I wanted to take all the Wheat I was creating and make something else. The Windmill takes the Wheat and some Wood to create Flour. The Lumberjack will chop down wood and bring it directly to the Windmill which is nice. That being said the Lumberjack just randomly gathers wood so sometimes he likes to walk across the map to get wood when there are others closer.

There are other farming operations you can build. There are Cotton Fields, Salt Fields, Sugarcane Fields, Tree Farms, and Wheat Fields. There is also a Bakery and a Cakery to build more with your resources.

Each farm has a “truck” where you can sell items. You need to sell items in lots of 10 or more. The truck needs gasoline to move the items so keep that in mind. There is also a “Fuel Storage” next to the Truck which stores your gas. It doesn’t regenerate gas (see below).

I ran low on money and decided to sell some gasoline because I had 40 of them and didn’t need that much (so I thought). I found one that looked like I was selling 1 gasoline for $14,500. Turns out it was selling 10 gasoline (everything is sold in lots of ten) and it costs 1 gasoline to transport it. When the truck returned, I got $14,500 plus 40 stars.

Things I have noticed and things to watch out for.

Watch this Youtube video before you play to get a better idea of how it works.

It took me way to long to figure out how to build roads. If you go to the shop look at the bottom and you can see different sections. One is for roads and such and there is one for animals and everything in between.

I also can’t seem to find a way to move buildings once they are built. Super annoying.

The game doesn’t run in real-time background. By that I mean if a building takes 5 minutes to build your browser tab running the game needs to be open for those 5 minutes. But you can work on a separate monitor and just have the game open on the other and it still works.

Each building that you build require money to run. It is calculated is $/min. The Farmhouse is $12/min, Lumberjack $120/min, Windmill $60/min and the Trade Depot is $24/min. Each minute I am burning $216. That’s steep when you only start with $25,000 and I used most of that to build the buildings I have. I was to do it over again would be to not build a tree farm (wasted $500), or a 3rd wheat field (wasted $250). I also would have waited to build the windmill till after I stocked up some Wheat and Wood. I would have let the wheat farmer stock up Wheat first and sell a few shipments of them to get some cash flow then build out the lumberjack and windmill.

In the top right corner, there is a “leaderboard”. You can see how many days are left in the game. This is still a little blurry to me but based on what I can see is that there are “seasons” where you try to earn as much stars as possible.  But this is me guessing as their website doesn’t really state that at all. The only way to get gasoline is to buy it from people are get a crude oil pump and then a refinery and make it yourself but that is way down the line.

Final Thoughts:

I like the game so far. There seems to be so much to go the more you play. You can start farming wheat, then move to animals then move to creating batteries. I would highly suggest to pick a plot of land along water as you can build piers eventually to move items. This is a Blockchain game built on the Ethereum blockchain and it uses the ERC-1155 standard.

It was built by one of the founders of Zynga, you know Zynga right?

Their website is trash. It doesn't really explain anything. But from what I found out reading online at other sites is that when each "season" is over top players earn crypto as a reward. The problem with this is that you could create multiple accounts and just send your supplies to one account and rack in a huge amount of stars and then earn rewards. So don't play this game expecting to get rich quick (or slow even). Play this game if you want a relaxing game to play during work or just to waste time because it is fun to play.
