It's with a heavy heart that I write this post, but Theta.tv is closing as we know it. Some of you may not know what that is but some of you may remember that it was my first real dive into blockchains. I wrote about the Theta blockchain and Theta.tv (was originally called sliver.tv) a few times over the years here on Publish0x.

I am not going to rehash all those articles and explain in great detail what Theta is but I will tell you what the blockchain is and what it's purpose is for.
Theta Labs wanted to create a web3 video infrastructure system. And I believe they have done that already. Instead of going online and watching the 'football' World Cup in 10 years and it streaming from datacenters around the world it instead could be streaming to someone who is a mile away from the Datacenter and then that person shares the streams to another person a mile away. This concept greatly benefits those who live remotely or even just not near huge AWS/Google/Azure Datacenters.

Back in the day on Theta.tv you could live stream like you could on Twitch or Youtube and the people who watched those streams would earn some TFUEL for sharing the stream to peers.

It has greatly gone downhill since its prime but it was always nice to have a place where anyone could live stream and anyone could do it and anyone could earn TFUEL. The downer was that the TFUEL you earned in Theta.tv was not able to be withdrawn which sucked. 

That is the short version of all of this but it was announced yesterday (Sept 4th, 2023) that Theta.tv as we know it is going away. There will no longer be people streaming videos of whatever but instead will just be 1 main stream put on my the Theta Team to showcase the blockchain and what it is capable of.

Ah the memories guys :(

So as you go about your day today, just pour one out for good 'ol Theta.tv. It's been a fun ride and I am so thankful for getting exposure to it since I am still running my Theta node to this day and have staked thousands of TFUEL. I am full on commited to the Theta blockchain and while I didn't watch that many streams anymore on Theta.tv it will always hold a special place in my heart!

There is a reason when I bought physical crypto coins after BTC and ETH the only other ones I wanted was TFUEL and THETA :)
