Toward my ongoing goal of adding a bit of action, a bit of story to my drawings rather than exclusively do exercises and anatomical studies of shoulders or feet or hands or lips etc, today I drew this dude swinging on a rope swing over a stone ledge into a pond. Historically, I would not have put shorts on him, but I do want to get some practice on the things I think I need to work on, and one of those is fabric, so against my instincts and inclinations, I have given him a fine, loose swimsuit. It is white, because I need something to look forward to, and once he lets go of that rope, what happens to the white suit?

I think his left foot (the one on our right) is a bit wide compared to his right, and I even think I know how to fix that quickly and easily, so probably I will do that as soon as I post this. The trees and greenery and general back layer are a bit more Impressionistic than I would prefer, so that's something to work on in the future. Water continues to puzzle me, but this seems as good as my water ever does.
I am pretty happy with the way the figure came out. I am actually real happy with his shorts, although I could profitably add some shadows to the inside of his right pants leg. I also rather like how the stone came out. His face could use more detail, but at least I feel the detail that is there is proportionally correct and shaped right.
