This evening I spent a few hours in a Zoom with one old friend and a few brand new ones, all of us making art independently. Two were doing self-portraits where you don't look at the page or lift the pencil, which strikes me as terrifying, but is doubtless an unbelievably useful exercise.
I found a picture of a guy standing on rocks, half-wrapped in what looks like it might be a sarong if he were actually wearing it, rather than allowing it to illustrate the wind around him... Anyhow, I was really interested in the movement that was implied in the photo, and I wanted to challenge myself with some other objects in my drawing, so the pile of rocks was very attractive to me as well as the fabric of his maybe-a-sarong.
I have been thinking of him as a hydromancer. I imagine he is concentrating to make the reservoir water rise up and strike down the retaining wall in the background.
I was probably more nervous about drawing that rock pile than about the figure or even his mysterious garment.
Here's my drawing:

Part of me REALLY wants to go back in and add pale blue to his garment, rusts and grays to the rocks, dark blue-green for the water, etc. It would increase the contrast between the rocks and the fabric, but I am not sure yet that it's needed. Plus, I am terrified to mess around with this one, which I am actually pretty happy with already, in a way that would be so catastrophic if it went badly - It would be pretty much impossible to back the color out if I hate it. I may call this drawing finished.
Thanks for looking at my drawings!
