Raccoon - Pastels

Pastel Trash Panda

I bought some pastels over the weekend, and last night I finally had the chance to try them out.

Raccoon peering over a log - pastel drawing

I wasn't really sure how to do details like fur or bark with smoodgy pastel sticks - I am very much accustomed to drawing with pencils. So I didn't really try to create fur texture and I didn't get super fussy with bark texture.

Instead I focused on color blending for depth and to indicate anatomical divisions like where the head extends from the shoulders, where the shoulders bend away from the mid-body, etc. I am oddly happy with the little bit of bark texture I did try to apply.

My hands were SO MESSY when I finally finished this piece lol.

Thanks for viewing my raccoon :D
