Man climbing wooden fence - drawing in pencil

Jumpin' fences

I have been practicing elements, and doing careful studies of specific body parts and slavishly copying photos, etc, and it is probably time for me to start thinking more about combining those elements into images with a little more story. With that in mind, today I drew this image of a man climbing over a wooden fence, combining the gesture-drawing figure techniques I have been practicing, with the wood-grain texture that I had so much fun practicing over the summer.

I could profitably go back in and add shadows, both on the figure and from the figure on the fence, and between fence planks, to make it more fully three dimensional. But on the whole, I really like how this one is shaping up.
