Mouse on hind legs - drawing in pencil and colored pencil

Inktober Day 6: Rodent

By DoctorPlatypus | Doctor Platypus | 7 Oct 2020

Today's prompt was "Rodent" and I had a hard time not drawing a political figure. Haha.

Then I thought about different kinds of rodents, and finally settled on cute mouse. When I had the contour lines laid out and had started to do some shading and add values and stuff, I noticed these little patches of golden brown among the grays in the reference photo I was using, and I thought about trying to represent the different colors using just gray pencils, and I got a sad. So I busted out the giant pile of colored pencils my awesome brother gave me. I was pretty frightened of them, because I have the impression you can't erase as easily, but on the whole I am pretty happy with how this came out. I may use more color!

As always, in the composing interface, the photo of my drawing is out of aspect ratio, but usually it fixes itself in the publication version, so here's hoping.

I could profitably do more work on the feet and hands, I think, but on the whole, I am pretty excited about this piece!

Happy Tuesday!
