Francesco's face - colored pencil

Figure Drawing - Francesco

By DoctorPlatypus | Doctor Platypus | 1 Apr 2021

During today's The Male Figure figure drawing workshop with model Francesco, I tried to focus on the faces. They are still a touch uncanny, but I do feel like they are coming along nicely compared to the faces from previous sessions.

I was late to the workshop because work ran over today, so I missed the short-pose warm-ups.

Here's a 10-minute sketch:

Here's a zoom-in on the face:

This page has a 10-minute and a 15-minute pose:

I had some trouble with the distant eye on the right-hand sketch. I like that I managed to capture the way his foot and leg deformed against the stool though.

Here is the first of two 20-minute sketches

I got to do some real shading here, and I like how that worked out. I am also pretty happy with his face. It's still sort of minimal, a little cartoony, but at least everything is approximately where it belongs. And shading the face allowed me to get cheekbones on him, so that's nice too. People like having cheekbones.

Here's the other 20-minute pose:

For this one, the emphasis was definitely on foreshortening, and I think I caught that pretty well. The shading on his face is a little choppy, but again, the eyes and nose make sense, and you can tell he was sort of looking up.
