I have this idea for a two-page graphic story spread that opens with a frog and lily pads, then pulls back to reveal that it's all growing in a swimming pool. A further pull back reveals the handsome poolboy standing nearby looking sadly at the situation, pool skimmer held like a yoke over his two shoulders and behind his neck. It's meant to be the beginning of a larger set of adventure stories about the pool boy. I'm imagining a frame of the frog looking reproachfully at the poolboy when he starts to clean the pool.
The desire to draw this story is part of why I have been trying so hard to learn to draw recognizable water in various configurations. It's also why I drew this frog-and-lily-pads picture yesterday:
I still have a lot to learn about shading with colored pencils, and I wish I had chosen a brighter gold for the frog's eye. I spent a lot of time working on the water droplets, and I think they came out ok, but I think they could be better too.
Still, I am pleased with this as a first attempt.
