I want to start a new series that shed light on the lives of individuals in my sphere of influence. My blog does attract some eyeballs every day, so I want to use my writing ability to make a difference, no matter how tiny.
The first thing I did when I returned to Singapore was to find this key maker situated near Yishun MRT Station. Back in Japan, I had a few anxious moments when I couldn’t find the keys where I thought they should be. (I had enjoyed myself too much and blocked all memories of my keys until it was nearly time to go home.)
Thankfully, my organisational skills were up to par because I found them in another bag. However, this scare made me realise that I really should make extra copies of my keys. Okay, normally I would just keep to myself, but since I was all well rested from the Japan escapade, I struck up a conversation. However, because my conversational skills were rusty, I asked a potentially insulting question. I asked him whether he was doing it as a hobby or for a livelihood.
I think he wasn’t used to people chatting with him. He mumbled something like a few keys per day. Pretty soon, he finished making my key. 🔑 I expected it to cost at least 10,000 sats, but my gosh, it cost just 4,000 sats (4 bucks). I felt sad really. Surely his lifetime (or decades worth) of expertise could fetch him more for his Proof of Work? But I guess that’s how things work in our capitalist economy.
This explains my motivation for writing this. I hope more people find him near Yishun MRT Station to get extra copies of their keys made. Thank you for reading.
