Illuvium is one of the most anticipated games of 2023, due to its game mechanics and graphics. Among the founders we find the Warwick brothers (Kieran, Aaron and Grant). I remind you that one of the Warwich brothers (Kain) is the founder of the Synthetix Network protocol: one of the longest-lived platforms on Ethereum where it is possible to mint synthetic assets. The game runs on the Ethereum blockchain using Immutable X (layer2). Within Illuvium which is an RPG there will be 7 regions, basically what you will have to do is capture the Illuvials (alien creatures). They are limited and divided by edition (first season will have 150, second season, etc). The Illuvials creatures can be found around and captured, beating them in fights (type Pokemon). Obviously these are NFT that can be collected and resold. The big difference with Axie Infinity's creatures is that Illuvials are "limited" and don't have infinite supply.
There are three game modes:
1) Illuvium Zero
2) Illuvium Overworld
3) Illuvium Arena (Survivor, PVP and Tournaments)
LAND AND RESOURCES: ILLUVIUM ZERO
Like any explorable blockchain game, there will be lands (100,000): 1) Land 0 (free to play) 2) Land 1-5 (fees will be paid to interact and to capture the Illuvials which as you level up are increasingly rare and stronger, therefore difficult to capture) Lands produce matter. Land owners can construct buildings on their property and these will produce resources that will be usable in the game and/or marketable. What are these resources for? When you want to capture Illuvials you will need these resources (shards). Inside the lands it will also be possible to produce fuel (energy) which will be used in the game and some kind of bonus.
HOW TO PLAY: OVERWORLD
Our character will be accompanied by a drone that can be customized with skins (which are burned once used in the game). This drone is capable of mining and extracting resources. These resources can be used to forge weapons and armor. I explore the overworld and when I find an Illuvial I can fight and if I defeat it it becomes mine (I will receive it in the wallet). As mentioned, to catch them I will need a shard. The cards report both the evolution of the Illuvials but also the cost of the game.
CAPTURING THE ILLUVIALS: ARENA
When fighting, you enter an arena where I will choose my team based on the Illuvials faced. The team will fight automatically. If my team wins the match I get to choose which of the defeated Illuvials to capture. To capture an Illuvial I'll need a shard: a crystal that locks the Illuvial inside. Shards will have different "powers": the stronger the Illuvial to catch, the better your shard should be. When I defeat and capture the Illuvial it will go straight to my wallet. The capture doesn't always succeed, it depends on the shard. A wounded Illuvial recovers its health over time (if I need to fight immediately I can restore its life by paying a fee or use alien fruits produced by trees and which I collect during exploration). An Illuvial found in the game will be of "basic" level and will have its own characteristics (water, air, earth, nature, fire). Each Illuvials has its own "similar", in order for my Illuvials to evolve it is essential to have three of the same type. When 3 basic Illuvials are merged, they are burned (address burn) and an evolved one is created. Level 2 Evolved Illuvials, can move to the next level by merging 3 of the same type. This hints that entry-level Illuvials will become rarer and rarer over time. Illuvials will be rarer in some regions, based on their type (whether ice, earth, etc).
SYNERGIES: MERGER AND CLASSES
Setting up a team of "varied" Illuvials will be very important because I will also have synergies that could allow me to beat stronger Illuvials. If I only have Nature Illuvials, I could be easily defeated by Fire Illuvials. Aria is weak against Natura and so on. For example, the most powerful evolved forms can have affinity with 2 elements ("Illuvials cold"=air + water) or with only 1 element ("Illuvials hell"=fire+fire). Illuvials will also have 5 classes: fighter, guardian, rogue, psion and empath. To check the various synergies (which ones to merge and which Illuvials to deploy in battle): IlluvialMaster. These Illuvials can then be used in PVP against other players by winning tokens or sold on IlluviDex or on secondary markets such as Opensea.
ILLUVITARS
These are avatars that can be used throughout the Illuvium ecosystem. They represent portraits of Illuvials with 5 slots (hat, glasses, skin, clothing, special item) and some frames. All this (accessories and so on) determines the rarity of the Illuvitars, then classified in a leaderboard (it will guarantee prizes). Later, rewards will also be released by achieving objectives (in-game assets and real merchadising). There will also be an ultra-limited pack with the wording "alpha" (there are no differences, apart from the writing that identifies the first edition).
DOUBLE TOKEN
The game has two token: ILV and sILV. ILV is the DAO token that will be earned in the game and will be made available in tournaments. Stakers earn a portion of the fees generated in the game and elsewhere (any merchandising, games, TV programs, etc). sILV, on the other hand, has the same value as ILV and can be used in the game to purchase resources and land. ILVs received from staking have an unlocking time of 365 days, however I can decide to receive sILV which are immediately expendable (but not tradable externally!). If I have to receive 5 ILV from staking, they will come out in 1 year, however I can decide to make the claim immediately, receiving 5 sILV (which will only be valid in game as mentioned).
