Upland, the blockchain game that allows you to buy virtual properties based on real-world addresses, is constantly expanding and, after having conquered part of the United States of America, I think that the time has come for our explorers to visit the Old Continent. With a long history behind, and a huge variety of different cultures, Europe was the scene of several and violent wars, such as World War I and II. However, it was also the seat of one of the most ambitious (and yet very bumpy) political-economic projects in contemporary history: the European Union.

With the evolution of the international agreements and thanks to the creation of Schengen’s area, which began in 1985 and led most of the European countries towards the abolishment of their national borders, European citizens have acquired a series of rights such as freedom of travel without restrictions across the countries adhering to the treaty. As an European citizen, first of all, I can’t do anything but hoping for Upland to expand its borders on my continent.

A my father says goes: "the head in the world, the feet in the village", so, inspired from this maxim, I want to drive you to the village where I was born and where I spent my childhood. This place is called Lanciano, which is part of the Abruzzo region, in Italy, in Europe (of course!).

City map from google maps
Lanciano (or Langiàne, in Lancianese dialect) is a small town populated by just over thirty-four thousand souls where the number of inhabitants is progressively decreasing by time due to a series of questionable political decision made by often unexpert administrators. However, Lanciano boasts a long history and it can be considered an ancient city. In the past it was the capital of the Frentani, a town-hall at the time of Roman Empire, and subsequently it became the district capital during the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies. In modern times, Lanciano was also insigned with a “Gold Medal for military valor” thanks to the strong resistance of its younger partisans against fascists during the World War II. With such a great history, Lanciano is impatient to be discovered again by new explorers.

During all these years, Lanciano remained untouched form a technology point of view, especially in the field of blockchain. For this reason, our Uplanders would find fertile ground to spread the crypto word and redeem Lanciano citizens from bank control (which are dominating the entire city with their multiple branch). Nowadays, the most prestigious and historical building of the city are hosting bank activities but, with the aim of revitalizing the city, they could be considered fist on the list to be put up for sale, since at the moment they are as sad as the activities which are carried out inside them.
Religious buildings, such as the Cathedral of the Madonna Del Ponte, a seventeenth-century building located in Plebiscito squared would also be flying off the shelves. Worthy of note is certainly the Church of San Francesco which preserves the relics of the Eucharistic Miracle. Last but not least, I have to mention the Church of San Biagio, the oldest church in my city.

In Lanciano you can find the “Guido Biondi” stadium, which could find a new luster thanks to the advent of Upland, and where also the city team could take benefit in its revitalizing process. CiakCity, the cinema, is by far the heart for cultural activities, even if it located in a suburb of the city which should be more enhanced. In the city there are also two libraries, which our most cultured explorers could grab without any difficulty.

Lanciano presents many bars and shops, mainly located in Corso Trento and Trieste, a recently repaved city promenade. If Upland were to open in my city, I would like to have the property of San Biagio’s Door, the only one historic 11th-century which didn't fall down during the time. From here you can enjoy a beautiful view and fantastic sunsets, maybe sipping at the same time a good beer coming from "La Porta" brewery, the one of the most interesting clubs in the city which owes its name to the door itself and where you can choose between a wide selection of a national and international beer brands or try to taste the special beer made by the owners themselves.

San Biagio’s Door
With just 15 km far away from the sea and less than 50 km from the mountain, Lanciano is situated in a strategic position, leading to Uplanders the possibility to ski on the Majelletta ski slope during the winter and catching the sun on the Trabocchi Coast on Adriatic sea during the summer.
In conclusion, if Italy is by far one of the best tourist destination par excellence, Abruzzo is a land still to be discovered, where Lanciano is its Caput mundi (at least it is for me). Upland, allow your users to explore this incredible land: it doesn’t know almost anything about blockchain but it is enriched of cultural potential (not to mention the delicious cuisine: we are in Italy after all. Don’t miss the opportunity to mint properties in Lanciano!
