Yet more great news from the hard working team at Brave! The always evolving project now lets anyone with a Twitter account become a verified publisher by simply signing up with your Twitter credentials. This will allow visitors to your Twitter page to tip you manually or include you in Brave's Auto-Contribute algorithm, which simply distributes a user's BAT to websites and social media pages based on the amount of time they've spent there.
Users have already been able to verify their YouTube and Twitch channels, as well as any website for which you own the domain (as you can see while here on Publish0x-- if you're on Brave and click on the BAT triangle icon in your browser). It was only a matter of time before Brave integrated with other social media platforms as well. Both Reddit and Twitter have been mentioned for some time. Does this mean Reddit will be next?
Okay, you've signed up. Now how does it work? Once verified, you are eligible to receive tips/rewards in the form of Basic Attention Tokens, aka 'BAT' from visitors to your site. There are two ways this happens on websites and most social media channels. Visitors to your site who are using Brave can simply tap the BAT icon in the browser which will display a simple wallet from which they can select a tip amount.
Perhaps even more interesting though is Brave's Auto Contribute algorithm. When a Brave user has Auto Contribute in their browser enabled, the Browser keeps track of a user's time spent on each site. At the end of the month, it distributes the tokens in a user's wallet to sites visited, according to the amount of time the user spent on each site. No manual tipping required! Even more neat, the user is given an opportunity at the end of each month to adjust the amount which has been designated to each site. So users who particularly like your content may feel motivated to give you even more. Of course many people will not have time to sit down and redistribute tokens each month, and so you'll simply get what the program has designated.
But where Twitter is concerned, it gets even better. As you can see below, it appears Twitter will eventually have another layer of tipping functionality where users will likely (still in testing/development) be able to tip individual tweets! How cool is that?

So how do users get the tokens to contribute to you in the first place, you might ask? There's several ways. First, in an effort to introduce new users to the Brave/BAT experience, Brave is granting free tokens to new users to experiment with the tipping function. Simply download and install the browser and they will be there waiting for you. Secondly, throughout 2019, Brave will continue to roll out Ads in Brave Rewards in new regions around the world. By default, Brave is an ad free browser, with no ad blocker necessary. However, when Rewards is enabled, users can opt in to viewing some ads in exchange for receiving Basic Attention Tokens.
Thirdly, and probably the least common, users can simply purchase BAT from a cryptocurrency exchange.
But what are the tokens good for? From the Brave website:
"Brave recently announced a partnership with the TAP network that will allow Brave users to redeem Basic Attention Tokens (BAT) for real-world rewards offered by over 250,000 top brand partners in the TAP Network. Brave users will be able to redeem earned tokens for hotel stays worldwide, restaurant vouchers, exclusive entertainment experiences, as well as gift cards from top national brands including Amazon, Starbucks, Uber, Apple and many more. They will also be able to contribute to the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, World Wildlife Fund, and hundreds of other charitable causes via TAP Network. Brave will be extending this partnership to include mobile platforms by the end of 2019."
This is one of the many issues Brave is solving. Making cryptocurrency actually spendable in the real world!
Whether or not you plan to get verified as a publisher, you can begin enjoying Brave and experimenting with its tipping function, and start earning BAT today--or be prepared to earn BAT for opting into ads when Rewards is opened in your country later this year, by downloading and installing the Brave browser here
