Brave Browser Expands Publishing And Tipping Options

By CryptoScrimper | CryptoScrimper | 12 Sep 2019

If you've ever read or followed my blog, you know I’m a big fan of Brave Browser and its attempt to disrupt the current online ad revenue model and revolutionize the way content creators are rewarded. Brave has always made signing up to be a publisher super easy, but not many are aware of just how easy it is or take the time to avail themselves of the opportunity. Possibly this is partially because of Brave calling participants "publishers," which sounds very official and as if you need to meet some kind of serious qualification. But that really isn't the case.

A publisher is simply any kind of content creator or social media user who wants to sign up to the Brave program, which then allows them to be rewarded for their content via BAT, the Basic Attention Token native to the Brave ecosystem. Visitors to your website or social media channels can manually tip you, but you’ll also receive BAT through the Brave Auto Contribute algorithm — meaning users who come to your site or channel on their Brave browser with some BAT in their wallet, will auto donate a small portion of their BAT to you based on the amount of time they’ve spent on your site or channel. And now with tipping integrated for individual posts within social media sites, the scope of BAT's use has been enormously enhanced.

Initially you had to have your own website or a YouTube or Twitch channel to sign up as a creator. But Brave continues to expand the options for becoming a publisher at a near staggering pace. To date, not only are Twitch and YouTube on the table (in addition to any website you may own of course), but also Twitter (now with built in tipping for individual Tweets!), Reddit (also with integrated tipping), Vimeo , and even Github. As well, it looks like SoundCloud support is on its way. That doesn’t leave out much, and Brave is still at it.

It’s still very early in the game for Brave. The ability to earn BAT by viewing ads has been a bit slow to roll out worldwide, which has limited its appeal to many potential users. But as it becomes available to more and more countries, and more and more people are putting BAT in their wallet via ad viewing — there will be more people visiting your social media channels and websites with the Brave browser. Which equals more opportunity for you to be rewarded for your online contributions. Which means more fairness. It means no longer do the social media giants and advertisers get all the benefit of your creations and insights. And with tipping for individual posts on social media sites like Twitter and Reddit already integrated, it doesn't have to just be in depth research or an award winning musical performance that earns you a little in BAT tips. It could be something as simple as an answer to a question or bit of knowledge you share. It could be a meme you made or even just a joke that made someone laugh when they were having a bad day. Maybe it's a TA chart you shared. Anything you put out there that someone appreciates is a potential for a tip. Really there are no limits, which is what makes this so exciting. And of course reciprocating and sharing your BAT with others is a rewarding experience too.

Signing up your social media channel takes literally just a couple minutes. You can do it here. If you’re not already using Brave, you can get it here. Brave has also made it super easy to import your bookmarks from Chrome or Firefox, and you can get just about any extension for Brave right from the Chrome store. Why put off availing yourself of the opportunities Brave has laid at your feet? Go ahead and become a publisher today!

If you're already signed up as a publisher, have you been using the integrated tipping features on Twitter and Reddit? Have you received any tips yet? Let us know your experiences in the comments.
