I had been deep with my balls into crypto for a couple of years already. Lately, I've been reflecting on how my experiences in the world of cryptocurrency may have impacted me.
While some may label it as paranoia, I believe it's simply a reasonable amount of caution. Allow me to elaborate.
The Old Lady Is A Scammer
Earlier this month, my girlfriend and I moved into a new apartment. Our landlady seemed very kind and polite. However, our initial impression of our landlady was proven wrong soon after she handed us the keys to our new flat. She turned out to be deceitful and untrustworthy, using lies and cheats such as falsely advertising the size of the apartment we rented.
We were informed that our new apartment is 75 m². However, upon moving in with our furniture, we were surprised to find that the furniture from my previous 30 m² apartment already filled the new space comfortably. This seemed odd, so we decided to measure the apartment ourselves and discovered that it was only 55 m² - 26% smaller than what was stated in the rental agreement. As a result, we adjusted the rent accordingly.
Over time, it became increasingly evident that my landlady was dishonest. It seems that she lied from the moment she started speaking. At one point, my partner questioned my level of suspicion. I explained that my involvement in cryptocurrency has made me naturally cautious. I wouldn't call it paranoid but a reasonable amount of extra caution.
Crypto-Paranoia
It's crucial to exercise caution when dealing with crypto as a single mistake can result in losing everything in a matter of seconds. There are all kinds of different dangers in crypto and the most dangerous ones come with innocent and friendly faces.
Who thought that you will lose your hard-earned Bitcoins and Ethereum on a crypto exchange like FTX or on a lending platform like Celsius or BlockFi?
As someone involved in the world of crypto, it's not uncommon to encounter strange occurrences. Unfortunately, we often find ourselves admitting that we placed our trust in the wrong people. So many trusted FTX and Sam Bankman Fried, the altruistic super-rich crypto geek. Then your favorite crypto influencer Bitboy Ben Armstrong started hunting the scammer SBF in the Bahamas only to dumb his worthless meme coins on his followers.
It may sound insane, but that's just how the world of cryptocurrency is working right now. Unfortunately, it is a fact that brings sadness. It's no surprise that I've become very cautious and even a bit paranoid. At least it prevented me from losing my hard-earned crypto, well except for BlockFi.
My Final Conclusion
Have you noticed any increase in paranoia or trust issues lately, even outside of the realm of cryptocurrency? I would love to hear about your personal experience in the comments.
