We Need a REVIEW Mode in Splinterlands!

In strategy games, where the player faces another in some type of ranked match, when the style of play depends solely on skill, defeat can provide some valuable insights into what the opponent did correctly, which you ended up failing to do, being the difference between victory and defeat. In the case of Splinterlands, as we have this same mechanic of ranked matches in Wild, Modern, Frontier and Survival modes, we have a lot of insights such as positioning, skills used that can be learned in a single duel.

However, as it is a card game in which the combination of these cards increases their level, causing them to gain new abilities and status, this can mean that even the best players need to consider searching for other cards, simply by playing, accumulating glint and buying from the Glint Shop, going to the marketplace, collecting vouchers and earning Exclusive Cards, or even participating in modes such as Survival which rewards a special card for whoever manages to reach the Leaderboard.

Come check out the learnings gained from analyzing the latest defeats in the card game Splinterlands and also details about my suggestion for a review mode that could make it easier to create new strategies!

Learning from Defeats in Splinterlands

As I have already mentioned in a previous content on the topic of analyzing defeats, it is through these analyzes that you will find the weaknesses of your deck and cards that you can look for to improve it.

For those who don't know how it works, just go to your match history within Splinterlands, select the number of matches you will analyze, then defeats, and finally ranked matches, and you will find the best insights. It is worth mentioning that the same can be done in other modes as well.

When analyzing some of my latest matches/defeats, I realized that many players of my current level, that is, the ones I end up going against in matchmaking, are using summoners from the Chaos Legion Rewards collection, which were distributed as soulbound rewards at the time they were in the glint shop. The big problem is that in the case of these cards, I only have them at a lower level than my opponents, so I often can't follow the same strategies as my opponent, no matter how much better they are than mine.

🐉 Splinterlands

The reason this is difficult is that as the rewards were largely soulbound and the cost of unlocking was high at the time, few players ended up releasing their cards. This has caused the Chaos Legion Reward (Unlocked soulbound) card marketplace to be extremely scarce and the prices to obtain 1 copy of these summoners to be extremely high, which ends up making purchasing and often even renting these cards unfeasible.

Due to the rules of supply and demand, as there are few copies on the market in the marketplace, and they are powerful because they use gladiator cards, there is a certain demand that is much greater than the current supply for them, which causes the price to increase. Please note that a copy of Eternan Brune is being traded for $0.48 with only 8 copies available, that is, if there are 8 interested players the offer is completely over.

This ends up getting even worse when we look at the other Archons, the Pembook Nymph has 5 copies, being traded for $0.43. In the case of Franz and Lobb Lowland, there is only one copy being offered for sale and the prices are $0.43 and $0.58. It is very difficult for it to be acceptable to pay these values, when other rare summoners are traded for values that are a fraction of these.

🐉 Splinterlands Battle

In the battle that I ended up reviewing, you can see that only a single level 4 Eternan Brune was able to guarantee victory for the opponent, which would be very easy to find another strategy if we had a Review Mode for me to test. For the future Modern mode with Brackets, this addition would be essential for players to improve and make their decks more efficient.

In this case, avoiding placing a unit with low HP in case the opponent has bloodlust would be enough, but what about in a more complex battle with several buffs and debuffs?

Review Mode is a must!

As the problem is that in this case it cannot be resolved, since there is no longer any way to obtain these cards via reward and the prices are high because they are largely soulbound, the strategy of copying the opponent's cards ends up being invalid. But there is another option that would be much more difficult, which is to analyze the entire match and evaluate whether a card with a higher level, another summoner, another strategy would be able to defeat the opponent's strategy that has more "exclusive" cards.

Therefore, creating a game mode focused on Review to find other combinations that don't depend on a few cards is fundamental to the game! Players always end up having these doubts: maybe if I improved my units, used another summoner, another strategy, maybe luck influenced...

Performing this analysis in your head is almost impossible, which is why you would need a Review Mode. When a player finishes a match, they are able to copy a link. In this review mode, he could place this link and have an option on a screen similar to the custom set screen or the match screen itself to replace the units and the match summoner on the allied side, until he manages to defeat the opponent. I remember that there was a website that had a tool with this function, but it is no longer active if I'm not mistaken...
