Splinterlands is a card game primarily composed of two main types of cards: monsters/units that engage in combat (i.e., attack and defend) and archons. In the case of the archons, they end up being much more important than the monsters due to a matter of order. This might be confusing, but what I mean by "order" is in the sense of importance, or what comes first.
Ultimately, in a match, both types of cards need synergy to function, but without a good summoner, the monsters can't do anything. The reason is quite simple: the level of your archon/summoner defines the maximum level of monsters you can summon, and if your units are higher than the level limits allowed by the summoner, they will be limited to the abilities and stats of the maximum level the summoner allows.
Let's look at an example to illustrate this situation of archons limiting units in the preparation phase before battle. For this, we will use Archon Kelya Frendul as an example. Note that Kelya has a mana cost of 4 and two "abilities": granting 1 shield and 1 speed to all allied units. Unlike units that gain more stats and abilities when leveling up, summoners maintain the same "configurations" regardless of their level.
The difference is precisely what is on the right side, which can be found by searching the Archon's stats. In Kelya's case, being a rare Archon, for example, at level 3, by gathering 14 BCX, she has the ability to summon common monsters up to level 4, rare units up to level 3, epic units up to level 2, and finally legendary units up to level 2. With this general idea about Archons and how they work, we can move on to upgrades and talk a little about the rationale behind each choice.

Upgrading my Archons at Splinterlands!
In one of my previous posts, I believe I mentioned one of the archons I'd been eyeing, waiting for an opportunity to upgrade: Quix the Devious. Being a Dragon-type summoner, it was my 100% priority. The reason lies precisely in the element; Dragon-type summoners can use both Dragon-type cards and cards of other elements. This means that a single upgrade to a single card can have a huge impact on my entire deck—simply excellent value for money.
Next, I looked for other summoners to upgrade, and one worth mentioning is Possibulus the Wise. I don't know how many times I've lost to someone using Possibulus during brawls; it must have been about 10 times or more. I expected him to be a good summoner, but he ended up exceeding my expectations. I've won some matches with him that I most likely would have lost.
One detail is that, being a legendary archon card, it requires fewer copies to level up, but each copy tends to be more expensive. The upside of the price drops is that some opportunities arise; I ended up managing to buy a few copies of Possibilus close to its minimum price, so I was happy. Now I'll be the one using it in Brawls HAHAHA!
