What will be the future of Ragnarok Monster World?
Source: ROMW on CROSS Onboarding Guideline
It's always good to keep an eye on the context to understand what might happen in the future. On April 23, the Ragmon development team, 0x&, made a series of posts on medium and in-game talking about season 4, updates, among others. One of these posts called “ROMW on CROSS Onboarding Guideline” reveals some information that is starting to worry the community a little. This post says that Ragmon's multi-chain will be completely different. The Ragmon ecosystem that will run on CROSS will be completely separate, with its own progression, tokenomics, and leaderboard.
The model is so different that in CROSS, players will need to pay for a battle pass to enable the xZeny token, which is a different token from Ronin's eZeny, and there is no exchange between them. Another point is that in Ronin, NFTs were sold, with some very rare ones, such as Genesis Tamers and high-rarity Ragmons, which will not be used in this new game, which means that those who dedicated time and money to the original game will not have any benefit. Now, they will launch the same game on another network without any economic relationship or NFTs, whereas a multi-chain game is usually to give players more options to connect and access the game through different networks.
In addition to this issue of CROSS having a “different” multi-chain, there was news about the TGE of the $ZENY token, in which the team says that the TGE will happen on Ronin, but without a confirmed date, which generates even more uncertainty. The reason for the delay was also presented, being a lack of financial resources to generate the initial liquidity. Their idea to achieve this is to use future revenue from Ragmon to set up a validator on Ronin and create liquidity to earn fees, but they also give the option to put 100% in Liquidity.
Overall, it seems like there is a lot of uncertainty about how this multi-chain will work. If the game is not working on Ronin, which has a large community, will it work on CROSS, which does not have a community? The devs say they will continue to commit to the game on Ronin, with constant updates of patch notes and balances, but it is a difficult question because they spend money on the development team to do this and they are not generating revenue to create liquidity, so how will they keep the game updated? They also talked about adding status to Ragmon NFTs, which may make players need to exchange their NFTs for a better one.
With the end of Season 3, players will receive their end-of-season Ranking rewards in the eZeny token and probably a good part of them ended up selling, putting pressure on the token's value and, along with recent events, the drop in the $RUPI reward token was very significant, falling more than 3x since last season. Regarding NFTs, prices also fell significantly, after the post on April 23, a period in which the Genesis Tamer NFT collection reached its lowest values.
How did Ragmon's partnership with the Ronin network turn out?
To make matters worse, which was already not going well with the posts made by the team, there are comments from Ronin founders Jihoz and Psycheout. It starts with Jihoz's comment on a person's response to a post about Fishing Frenzy, on April 26th, giving very strong opinions about Ragmon, comparing it to a bad clone of Clash Royale and that now they are going to another network for money and ends by saying to focus on another Ragnarok game.
Next, on April 27th, the other ronin co-founder of Psycheout makes a long post with several new details on the subject. The first is that due to a breach of trust between Ragmon and Sky Mavis by signing an alleged secret agreement, they would be ending their partnership with 0x&, the developer that has the license to make the game with Ragnarok products. With that, after 48 hours, the game's products would be removed from the Ronin Market, making the NFTs unavailable for trading there.
He also goes on to say that even though the token launch is possible now that the network is open, Sky Mavis would not support the Token's TGE. Soon after, he makes an update saying that they listened to the community's feedback and that instead of completely removing Ragmon's assets from the Ronin marketplace, they will remove the checkmark. However, if you go there to search for the game, it was not possible to find the general Ragnarok Monster World collection, which aggregates the NFT, material and genesis collections, making it difficult for users to find the NFTs.
This leaves the game in a much worse situation after all, the founders of Ronin have made it clear that they will no longer support the game in any way, and without the support of the main personalities within Ronin everything will be even more difficult. In response to the situation, Ragmon makes his response post saying that there was no secret agreement and that they openly communicated with representatives of Sky Mavis their discussions with other networks. Furthermore, regarding the TGE, they pointed out that discussions for the TGE to be done outside of Ronin were initiated by Sky Mavis.
