Splinterlands is a crypto card game that has been on the market since 2018—even before the crypto boom that occurred during the pandemic. The creators of the original Steem Monsters were truly visionary, conceiving the idea well before the massive demand that emerged shortly thereafter.

Although the game now features additional ecosystem elements—such as land ownership—the core focus remains on ranked matches, tournaments, and guild battles; in other words, the card game itself is still a fundamental pillar. Consequently, your card collection is crucial.

The reason is quite simple: even if you are the best player, without the right tools (cards) to create the optimal combination—or the one with the highest chance of winning under the specific circumstances—you will likely lose. As with other ranked games, a loss causes your rating to drop. This leads to a lower position on the leaderboard and reduced earnings of SPS and Glint tokens.

One detail that sets Splinterlands apart from other card games is its match structure. In many other games, it is common to build a deck of 20 to 50 cards and use it for an extended period; in Splinterlands, however, every match comes with a specific mana cap, a set of available elements, and additional rules.

This dynamic means you cannot always rely on your favorite combo, and players who lack flexibility are often penalized. You might focus on three specific elements, only to find them unavailable for a particular match, causing your win rate to suffer... Card Rentals offer a solution to this problem!

In the last Splinterlands season, in one of the game modes I participate in, the Wild Format, the performance was well below expectations. The players' ratings were much higher, something around 200 to 400 rating difference from the last season.

I had improved some cards in my deck, mainly from the Chaos Legion collection, but it seemed to have had no effect, because even though my rating was similar to the penultimate season, my placement on the Leaderboard was much worse. I finished the season almost outside the leaderboard, in 79th position, and only managed to get 6,250 Glint as a reward from the leaderboard.

Now in this season, with more attention to card rentals, the win rate has improved greatly, and I'm currently rated 2800 and in position 14, managing to reach Diamond again for the first time in a long time. This is all because during the season my win rate was close to 50%, while in the last season it's around 45%, which means that the more I played, the worse my rating tended to get, and now at 50% it's at least important to keep it around 2800.

The tip here is this: If you're not improving your rating, or you're losing many games in a row, if your win rate is well below 50%, then there's room for you to improve your deck. Observe which cards your opponents are using most and see if there are any you don't yet have available to use. If you don't like collecting or if the card is too expensive, look for the option to rent it if it's at a good price.

A tip is to create a list and check rental prices every X days, once a week, to find good rental values, because it's no use improving your rating if you end up paying a very high price. A good place to make this list is on Peakmonster; you add cards to it, and then when you go to rentals you can select your list, and only the cards will appear, which you can then check.
