At the Token 2049 event, a member of Sky Mavis shared his vision for Web3 Games, highlighting the reasons why companies are failing to develop new games and pointing out possible solutions to the problem. Also, with the launch of Sky Mavis' new game, Atia's Legacy, will they implement all the knowledge acquired to make it the next big hit like Axie Infinity? A gameplay of the game was recently “leaked” and reveals some very interesting information. Come and find out everything!

Sky Mavis' Vision for Web3 Games
Recently, psycheout86 shared on his X, his conversation during the Token 2049 event, in which he shared lessons learned from Axie and his vision for web3 games and the companies that are in this market. An interesting piece of information to start with is that $15B was invested in the web3 gaming market after Axie Infinity, but even so, there was no major title that became as well-known as Axie and has remained so to this day.
Some of the highlights made by the Sky Mavis team within this topic in Token 2049 were highlighted in an article by Juice News, which I found very interesting to be reinforced. The first was Larsen's firm speech about the failures in this field, comparing them to Darwinism - the theory of evolution of species, in which the best adapted have a greater chance of survival. In the context of web3 games, in his words, it would be “Bad actors get washed out. Attention and capital eventually flow to the right teams.”
The other point presented by Larsen is that the developers' equation is wrong, some plan large AAA projects that take years to be released, focusing on incredible graphics and leaving the gameplay and economic part of the game in the background. Games need to have enjoyable gameplay and a well-thought-out tokenomic system, because if there is a bug in the economy of a simpler game, it doesn't take that long to fix. We have examples of large projects, such as Nyan Heroes and Ember Sword, that because of wanting to build something so innovative, ran out of resources to maintain all the development.
Sky Mavis x Axie Infinity
To this day, we have no other games that have reached the level of players or revenue of Axie Infinity, which has attracted hundreds of thousands of people and has already had more than $4.2 billion in NFT volume. It is possible that they will use everything they have learned over the years with the Axie Infinity games and decide to put the main learnings into Atia's Legacy, because the MMO model is perfect, having an economic cost when the character is defeated, finite resources and player coordination, in addition to a system.
We have examples of MMORPG games that are not Web3 and have a very strong economy that are still working today. In Larsen's words, "Nobody likes to lose money, but if you build a social layer — guilds, alliances — players will be more likely to keep playing even when they suffer setbacks." An essential point for the sustainability of these games is precisely the social layer they have, because there are players who just want to play and evolve in the game because they like the environment and improving their character to become stronger, without much importance to the economic aspect, because this is a leisure activity for them.
Atias Legacy Gameplay Leaked!
Still about Atia’s Legacy, on June 13th, both on the official Axie Infinity profile and on Jihoz (Axie’s CEO) the first “leaked” gameplay of this Axie MMO was released. It was certainly a planned post by the team, and the decision to start sharing more about the game was a good one, because this simple video of less than 1 minute generated more than 700 thousand views on X, and counting on other networks it must have surpassed 1 million views.
In the video, as announced, we can see pos2.ron, who is the Head of Growth at Axie Infinity, playing a bit of Atias Legacy. In this quick gameplay we can get some interesting information: he was walking around the map with a team of 2 axies, when along the way he encountered a group of simple mobs and then a group with a mini-boss. Unfortunately, it was not revealed what the reward that these monsters will give when they are defeated, but it was clear that it will not be an automatic game, because the attacks are in an area and you move your character during combat, making the game very dynamic.
In another post on X by Jihoz he says “The team has been working hard over the last week to get it ready for our first testers on Sky Mavis.”, which makes it quite clear that internal testing of Atia’s Legacy has begun. I found it very interesting of them to share the news and I think this is a strategy they should continue until the launch of the Axie MMO Atia’s Legacy, to keep the hype going with “leaks” or other informative content about the MMO or ways to prepare for the game.
