Stephen Chow "Nobody"
The Hong Kong movie director Stephen Chow has launched his own NFT collection which is titled "Nobody." It was launched on the 1st of February 2024 and has already reached over 11,000 ETH in trading volume on Opensea. The collection contains 10,000 pieces with a floor price at the time of writing sitting at 0.675 ETH.
With ETH currently priced at $2,486 Chow would be sitting on around $28 million from sales. He made a request of his followers on 'X' in a tweet where he asked for suggestions regarding potential Nobody community events. He also changed his profile picture on 'X' and Instagram to one of the Nobody Avatar collection. From there the director also urged his followers to update their profile pictures to images of Nobody.
Many celebrities have joined in with the craze and expressed their support for “Nobody” on social media, including Jay Chou, JJ Lin, Mayday frontman Ashin, Wu Jianhao, and others. The collection was announced back in December 2023 and Chow noted that he was partnering up with Chinese-American rapper MC Jin to drop the NFT collection.
The NFT collection was released on the Moonbox platform, a Hong Kong-based AI and Web3 start-up that specializes in launching AI-powered NFTs influenced by the arts and film industry. The volume and price of the collection has been slowly rising according to Opensea, although trade figures are slowing the overall increase in price has made a substantial impact on the NFT space.
Chow's agent, Chris Chan, noted:
“Chow has always hoped to create a native IP based on Web3, aiming to bring top-notch Chinese storytelling abilities to the Web3 industry. The design inspiration for the upcoming NFT series ‘Nobody’ does indeed stem from the spirit represented by Stephen Chow: the spirit or strength to achieve great things despite humble beginnings.”
The co-founder of Moonbox, Jacky Cao, went on to note that users will have the capability to interact and engage in conversations with each Nobody NFT character, gaining insights into their personalities, hobbies, and background stories. There will also be the ability to participate in the secondary creation of Nobody characters using exclusive digital features and tools for holders of the Nobody NFTs.
When assessing the current distribution of the "Nobody" NFTs on Opensea there are less than five wallets which contain more than 100 Nobody NFTs. Over 80% of the collection holders only hold a single "Nobody" NFT and Chow announced a collaboration with OKX back on the 10th of January 2024. As part of that collaboration they launched a "Nobody" whitelist giveaway with over 125,000 difference participants. Over 2,500 Nobody NFTs were available as part of the airdrop from the 10,000 piece collection.
Developers also noted that holders of "Nobody" collectibles will be able to engage in the project’s development and enjoy various privileges. Among these will include participation in proposals, co-creation, voting, and contributing to the creation of Nobody intellectual property.
The below tweet, translated with google, from the Nobody NFT account noted that for the Chinese New Year, the year of the Dragon, they will be giving away 100 physical signature gold cards to Nobody NFT holders. This will be done in the form of a lottery between the 10th and 29th of February 2024. The number of Nobody NFT(s) held in the wallet address and the holding time will determine a users lottery bonus and probability of winning.
