Good day everyone,
I hope you are all well and having a great week after the exciting FA Cup weekend, welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things sports. Today we will be looking at the upcoming matches in the Premier League which were originally postponed due to Covid-19 outbreaks. There are two matches scheduled this week in an attempt to start removing the fixture pileup which is building up throughout the league thanks to so many teams having games called off.
Fixtures - Times are shown as U.K. Time
This midweeks fixtures take place over 2 days, from Tuesday evening until Wednesday evening.
Tuesday 11th January
Southampton - Brentford 7.45pm KO (Kick Off)
Everton - Leicester 8pm KO - Postponed
Wednesday 12th January
West Ham - Norwich 7.45pm KO
Predictions
Now for the most exciting part, as I go through the latest info regarding each team to make an attempt at predicting the results for this weekends matches. Remember this is just my fun analysis and should not be taken as advice or a guarantee.
Southampton - Brentford
This fixture was due to be played on on December 18th but Covid-19 put a stop to that. With both these teams earning a spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup over the weekend, they will be hoping to add more points to their league campaign in this encounter. Two points separate these sides, with Franks team sitting above the Saints in the table. Southampton have also seen a recent take over of the club, and while no announcements of a transfer spree have been mentioned, it could see them acquire so additional fire power in this window or in the summer. Southampton's are strong on home soil and have put together a six-game unbeaten streak at St Mary's in the Premier League. The Saints will be without Valery due to his suspension, and Livramento, Adams, McCarthy, Smallbone, Small, and Walker-Peters are set to miss out. Salisu will also be absent as his plays at the AFCON. The Bees meanwhile will be missing Onyeka due to AFCON, and Raya, Goode, Jorgensen, Dasilva, and Jeanvier thanks to injury concerns. A tight encounter is to be expected, although Southampton and Brentford are more than capable of making an exciting match of it. With home advantage, even though they have a league-high six draws at Saint-Marys so far, should be enough for Southampton to grab a win and move above Brentford in the league standings. I will back a 2-1 home victory.
Everton - Leicester - Postponed
This fixture has once again been postponed, this time at the request of Leicester. The Foxes would not have been able to fulfil this fixture due to a combination of Covid-19 cases, injuries, and players absent for the African Cup of Nations. This game was originally due to take place on the 19th of December but got called off then because Leicester also could not field a team at that time. This also becomes the 19th Premier League game which has been postponed this season.
West Ham - Norwich
The Hammers were due to host Norwich on December 18th but will finally get to play out the fixture this week instead. Both these teams managed to progress in the FA Cup on the weekend and will hope to continue that form in this rearranged fixture. Norwich however under Dean Smith have suffered five consecutive Premier League defeats without scoring a single goal in the month of December, while conceding 14 goals along the way. Their return of 1 point from the previous 18 shows the honeymoon period is well and truly over. They sit rooted to the bottom of the table and three points off safety, with only three goals scored away from Carrow Road this season the worst record in the league. West Ham have started the new year in fine form, winning both their games in all competitions, and a point or three would see David Moyes' team move into the Champions League places. Lanzini has been in fine form and Antonio seems to have found his scoring boots again, giving the Hammers real hope of a successful season. West Ham will be without Ogbanna, Zouma, and Cressweel, while Benrahma is away at AFCON. For Norwich, Gilmour, Cantwell, Rupp, Normann, Zimmermann, and Omobamidele are all expected to miss out. The Hammers should dominate this game against a poor Norwich side, and ensure a victory with a 2-0 result.
Have a great week, I will have the Carabao Cup Semi-Final Review up on Thursday evening also so look out for that too.
Peace. CryptoGod-1.
