Weekend Predictions & Final Results
So in terms of the predicted scores, it was a bad week as I got 0/10 correct scores this week. In terms of match-winner/loser, I managed to predict 6/10 correctly in this round of games.
Predicted: Leeds 2-1 Bournemouth
Result: Leeds 4-3 Bournemouth
Rodrigo, Greenwood, Cooper, Summerville - Tavernier, Billing, Solanke
Three minutes in and this game saw its first big moment, as Rodrigo scored from the spot after Senesi had sent Summerville tumbling in the penalty area inside the opening 60 seconds. Four minutes later and Bournemouth got their first goal from their first attack, as Koch could only head Billing's cross onto the back post which allowed Tavernier to score the rebound. Bournemouth swarmed into the ascendancy and on 18 minutes had the lead, as Meslier blocked Tavernier's effort right back to him and he coolly played it to Billing who scored. Moore wasted an excellent chance to make it three before the break as Leeds were a mess at the back, and three minutes into the second half Bournemouth did get their third. Solanke turned home a low cross by Tavernier and it looked like the game was out of sight for the home side. Marsch sent on Greenwood soon after and he got one back for Leeds on the hour mark, scoring from 20 yards after Pascal Struijk's shot had been blocked. Eight minutes later and it was all level, as Leeds pushed forward and skipper Cooper headed home Greenwood's corner. Stacey nearly put Bournemouth back ahead but narrowly missed, as the game hung in the balance. It was Leeds who had the final say at Elland Road, with six minutes to go when Gnonto drove at the heart of Bournemouth's defence and slipped in Summerville who applied the finish. Bournemouth have become the first side in Premier League history to suffer back-to-back defeats in the competition despite leading by two goals in both games. The opening goals for both sides made this the earliest both sides have scored in a Premier League match this season.
Predicted: Manchester City 3-1 Fulham
Result: Manchester City 2-1 Fulham
Álvarez, Haaland - Pereira
It was a mixed day for Man City all around here, as they needed their striking hero to come off the bench and rescue the day from the spot. It was De Bruyne who threatened Leno in the Fulham nets first, as his shot was parried away inside 10 minutes. Pereira got away with a bad challenge on Rodri which could have seen red, but soon later City were ahead. Gundogan played in Álvarez who finished past Leno via the underside of the crossbar on 17 minutes. Stones could have doubled their lead but his effort was ruled out with Rodri offside. Soon after things went downhill for City, as Cancelo saw red on 26 minutes which he barged through Wilson who was through on goal. From the resulting penalty, Pereira levelled the scores. Grealish went close with two chances before the break but it remained level at the interval. Akanji headed straight at Leno after the break as City pushed on but Fulham held firm. Haaland and Foden were summoned from the bench after the hour mark, and the striker headed in from a De Bruyne's cross but was ruled offside. As time ticked on it looked like the game would end level until De Bruyne won a contentious penalty in added time for Haaland to convert and seal the three points. The win means City have extended their winning run at home in all competitions to ten matches, while Haaland has now scored 16 goals in his last 10 Premier League appearances.
Predicted: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Brentford
Result: Nottingham Forest 2-2 Brentford
Gibbs-White, Jorgensen OG - Mbeumo, Wissa
From the off it was clear Forest planned to play on the counter with Gibbs-White the orchestrator. They caused plenty of problems for Brentford and on 20 minutes it was a deflection off Mee which guided in the opener for Gibbs-White. Brentford seemed at a loss but on the stroke of half time were awarded a penalty when Henderson challenged Wissa as he was through on goal. With Toney suspended, Mbeumo stepped up and converted from the spot while the Forest players were furious having seen plenty of their own penalty shouts waved away while the ref was booed off at half-time by the Forest fans. The second half continued in similar fashion and on 75 minutes Brentford had turned the game around. Wissa perfectly timed his run to meet Jensen's through ball before slotting his shot past Henderson. Forest pushed hard for an equaliser and having been the better side for the majority of the game got the goal they deserved deep in added time. Once again it was a Gibbs-White's shot, which this time ricocheted off Jorgensen and went into the net despite the best efforts of Mee on the line. After the game it emerged that a Brentford goalkeeping coach was injured after a pre-match altercation with a Nottingham Forest groundsman, which Frank revealed was a shock to him during his post match interview, with the groundsmen having been walking around amongst the Brentford players during their warmup.
Predicted: Wolves 0-3 Brighton
Result: Wolves 2-3 Brighton
Guedes, Neves - Lallana, Mitoma, Groß
It was all action at Molineux as Brighton continued from their win over Chelsea by carving Wolves open for the opener on 10 minutes, as Trossard played in Lallana to finish past Sa. The lead only lasted two minutes as Guedes ran through the Brighton defence from the right hand side before beating Sanchez to score his first for the club. Wolves were a bit all over the place at times but didn't lack effort on the day it was announced Julen Lapetegui would take the reigns. They were rewarded on35 minutes when Dunk was judged to have handled Podence's cross, and Neves converted the spot kick. Brighton did not stop and continued to play the better football, with Mitoma outjumping Semedo on 44 minutes to head home to equaliser after some excellent work from Lallana. It was the Japan international's first goal for the club, and almost straight after once play resumed his sublime first touch caught out Semedo who resorted to pulling him down and getting a straight red. The second half saw Wolves defend deep with their ten men and Brighton play patiently. Traore offered a countering outlet and forced a fine save from Sanchez, but for the most part showed their resilience. It was in the 83rd minute when Groß broke that as he finished high in the net to win it. Brighton now have two wins on the bounce having not won in De Zebri's first five games in charge. Wolves meanwhile have won just two of their last 21 Premier League games, and it was the first time they scored twice in a league game in 17 matches. There is work for Lapetegui to do.
Predicted: Everton 1-1 Leicester
Result: Everton 0-2 Leicester
Tielemans, Barnes
This game started at lightning pace, as Daka twice spurned chance within three minutes after Dewsbury-Hall found him both times, while Calvert-Lewin and Maddison both shot wide within the opening fifteen. As the game settled Leicester were the more dominant side, although Tarkowski drew a save from Ward it was Everton making more mistakes. Dewsbury-Hall saved an effort saved and Maddison wasted chances before Tielemans stepped up right before half time to open the scoring. Maddison found the Belgian on the edge of the area and he lashed a stunning effort into the top left corner. Everton improved in the second half, as Iwobi played Calvert-Lewin through one-on-one with Ward but the keeper saved with his leg. Maddison then saw a curling effort hit the post on the hour mark with both sides looking to get a goal. As the match was winding down to a close, the Foxes stuck again. On 86 minutes Maddison powered down the left and crossed into the 18-yard box for Barnes to finish off. Barnes could have added another late on but Pickford saved after Maddison had set him up, and Leicester have now kept a clean sheet in five of their last seven league games. Everton meanwhile have only one win in their last six league games and Lampard will be determined to reverse their poor form.
Predicted: Chelsea 2-2 Arsenal
Result: Chelsea 0-1 Arsenal
Gabriel
A huge result and a deserved one at that as Arteta out masters Potter to put Arsenal back on top of the table. It was the home side who had the better start and first half, as they spurned a chance on three minutes when Gabriel nodded on Partey's long throw in to the side-netting. Jesus then could not connect with the ball after a White shot found its way to him at the back post when he should have scored. Havertz passed up two chances as he shot one over and another straight at Ramsdale in Chelsea's only shot on target in the entire half. Jesus had the best chance of the half as Martinelli played him in from the left but could only head wide unmarked at the back post. Arsenal started the second half in similar fashion and once again Jesus left another great chance go begging. His shot from a tight angle was saved by Mendy at the near post near the hour mark. The resulting corner by Saka looked like it might go straight in at the back post was tapped home by Gabriel. Arsenal dominated from there as Saka hit over the bar and Odegaard missed when presented with a chance to score by Jesus. Chelsea finally showed some life towards the end but by then it was too late, and the boos rang around Stamford Bridge after the final whistle.
Predicted: Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester United
Result: Aston Villa 3-1 Manchester United
Bailey, Digne, Ramsey - Ramsey OG
Aston Villa managed to end a 27 year wait for a victory over Man United at Villa Park in Unai Emery's first game in charge. The fans were up for this one and a raucous atmosphere was palpable before kick off. Villa exploded out of the traps and got their opening goal on seven minutes when Ramsey played in Bailey who fired past De Gea. Only four minutes later and Ramsey was involved again, this time winning a free kick. Digne stepped up and struck it beautifully into the top-right corner to double the lead. Ten Hag's side looked all out of sorts, with Villa completely on top tactically. Ronaldo saw a header saved by Martinez but United got one back on the stroke of half time. The ball ricocheted off Ramsey following Shaw's hopeful shot to give United hope. The second half quickly saw Villa restore their two goal cushion as Rasmey got himself a goal. He got the ball via a Watkin's cut-back and applied a fine finished beyond De Gea. From there Villa remained in charge, as Mings controlled Ronaldo. Emery's revolution at Villa has truly begun while Ten Hag needs to revaluate his side after things looked like they were going right.
Predicted: Southampton 1-2 Newcastle
Result: Southampton 1-4 Newcastle
Perraud - Almirón, Wood, Willock, Guimarães
The first half of this game was played out quite evenly, with both sides matching each other. It took until the 35th minute for Newcastle to get the lead, when in form Almirón evarded Maitland-Niles and sidefooted past Bazunu into the bottom-left corner. Moments later it looked like Southampton would be level when Elyounoussi blasted over from six yards. Early in the second half Ward-Prowse shot a free kick straight at Pope, while Elyounoussi sent another shot over the bar. Wood made the most of the Saints wastefulness on 58 minutes when he got a loose pass, turned, and shot into the bottom corner. FOur minutes later it was three as Willock stuck low into the same corner of the net. The Saints did manage to pull one back with a minute of normal time left when Perraud gave Pope no chance of saving with a shot into the top right corner. Undettered, Newcastle got their fourth when Guimarães curled a shot past Banuzu to sour the Saints mood even further. The wins see Newcastle continue their impressive start to the season, having only lost once so far all campaign. Southampton meanwhile continue the rot and their form is making them look like relegation candidates currently. as they have only one clean sheet in their previous 13 home games in the league.
Predicted: West Ham 1-1 Crystal Palace
Result: West Ham 1-2 Crystal Palace
Benrahma - Zaha, Olise
It was a showing from the home side here all in all as they only managed five shots in the entire match. They did however take the lead on 20 minutes when Benrahma struck from 22 yards and left the Guehi with no chance. Vieira has his side well drilled and they did not let their heads drop, calmly and coolly playing their possession-based football. The reward came four minutes before the break, as Zaha fired home after an error from Kehrer gifted him the opportunity. The second half was less exciting, with both sides seeming to settle for cancelling each other out. The Hammers thought they had a penalty when Antonio went down under a challenge from but the referee changed his decision once VAR instructed him to check the pitchside monitor. When that looked like the final piece of action in the game Olise decided otherwise. In the fourth minute of stoppage time Antonio's final ball inside the box was straight to Guaita. The keeper started the counter and Olise finished it off with a deflected effort over Fabianski to score his first goal in 19 games. The result ended a run of three games without a goal away from home for Palace, while West Ham's expected goals return of 0.19 is the lowest of any home side all season.
Predicted: Tottenham 1-3 Liverpool
Result: Tottenham 1-2 Liverpool
Kane - Salah x2
Liverpool started the stronger, with Nunez showing real presence up front and letting off two shots in the first ten minutes. The first goal came on 11 minutes when Robertson played a low ball into the box, which Nunez controlled. He swivelled and layed it off to Salah whose quick control and shot on the turn left Lloris standing helpless. It seemed like Liverpool would walk this game but around 15 minutes in Peresic managed to hit the post with a header and this sparked Spurs into life. They thought they had a penalty when Alexander-Arnold nudged over Sessengon in the box but the referee and VAR waved play on. That battle down the Liverpool right hand side of defence looked the main outlet for Spurs, with Kane searching for Sessengon throughout the half. The second came from an Alisson long kick on 40 minutes, which Dier completely misjudged his header back to his keeper and Salah was lurking behind. The Egyptian controlled the ball and ran in on Lloris before lofting the ball over the stranded keeper. The Spurs fans booed at the half time whistle, clearly not happen with what they had seen. Three minutes into the second half and Peresic hit the crossbar as Spurs started the brightest. Moments later Peresic hit the bar once again as he tried his luck from distance. Liverpool came alive and both Salah and Nunez had chances as Spurs began to look nervous and hasty while being wasteful with the ball. Liverpool created better chances but it was Kane who came the closest when he headed just past the far post from a free kick. He did get one back in the 70th minute when substitute Kulusevski played in Kane to finish past Alisson. Spurs kept the pressure on from there but in a first break in what felt like a long time Nunez hit the top of the bar for Liverpool, giving Spurs a reminder they may be caught on the counter. The game finished with Spurs throwing everything at Liverpool and even coming agonisingly close after a Kane flick and Bentancur touch went just wide. A huge result for Liverpool and Klopp as they secure their first away win of the season. As for Spurs, they continue their poor run against the Big 6 and Conte will need to reassess if they wish to retain their Champions League place for next season.
Table After Match Day 14
A look at the top half of the table and Arsenal still lead the way with Man City two points behind them. Newcastle sit five points behind in third, with Spurs down to fourth place and a point behind. With so many top half teams losing United sit three points off fourth, while Brighton and Chelsea are two points behind them. Liverpool have climbed into eight and are level on points with Fulham and Palace to round out the top half.

As for the bottom half, and Forest remain at the foot of the table level on points with Wolves just above them. They are two points off Southampton in 18th with Bournemouth just in safety a point ahead.
