Hello everybody,
Welcome to CryptoGod-1's blog on all things sports. Today we are going to review the latest round of matches from Match Day 4 for the twenty teams in the Premier League. An exciting weekend with some surprise results, amazing second debuts, and first home goals for a powerful striker. I shall also look through my predictions from my previous post, which you can find here: English-Premier-League-Match-Day-5-Preview
Weekend Predictions & Final Results
So in terms of the predicted scores, I managed to achieve 1/10 correct. In terms of match-winner/loser, I only predicted 4/10 correctly so improvements are needed.
Predicted: Newcastle 2-2 Leeds
Result: Newcastle 1-1 Leeds
Saint-Maximin - Dias Belloli
A close match at the beginning of the weekend in which both teams looked strong. An exciting display from two teams in the wrong half of the table. A long season could be ahead for either if they do not consolidate and get their points on the board.
Predicted: Wolves 1-1 Brentford
Result: Wolves 0-2 Brentford
Toney, Mbeumo
Wolves will be disappointed with their post-Nuno era so far. Languishing in the bottom 5, they were dismantled by an explosive Brentford, who even when down to 10 men, should have won by a bigger margin. Improvement is needed for Wolves, but Brentford will be delighted with their start and with Ivan Toney showing he can lead the line for this team in the big league.
Predicted: Burnley 1-0 Arsenal
Result: Burnley 0-1 Arsenal
Odegaard
Have Arteta and Arsenal finally clicked? I wouldn't get too carried away with results over Norwich and Burnley (with all due respect), although two clean sheets in a row mean things are looking positive. More cohesion and fluidity to get Arsenal playing with the tempo they did before is a faraway dream, but the team is starting to gel. It will be interesting to see how they fare against tougher opposition. Sean Dyche is used to the pressure of managing Burnely, and although they are second from bottom, his tough style should carry them through.
Predicted: Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace
Result: Liverpool 3-0 Crystal Palace
Mane, Salah, Keita
Clinical, devastating, back to their flying best. Liverpool had some nervy moments, but the debut for Konate and Milner's performance at right-back showed this team is resilient. Thiago looking injured when another unfortunate sign, but Henderson (captain of the club for his 200th game), and Mané (scored his 100th goal for Liverpool) have both achieved records in the game. Viera and Place played as best they could, causing occasional problems for Liverpool but in the end, it's another game under their belt. Viera is showing good signs, and Edouard should expect to start more games going forward. I'm certain Zaha will form a formidable partnership with him.
Predicted: Manchester City 2-0 Southampton
Result: Manchester City 0-0 Southampton
What's going wrong for Pep. He called on the fans to turn up, and City boasted their highest attendance this season, yet they failed to deliver on the pitch. It took 90 minutes for a shot on target, highlighting why City was so interested in Kane over the summer. Southampton lost Ings but they are a team with a focus, style, and when push comes to shove their ability to get points against both Manchester teams so far shows signs for a safe season.
Predicted: Norwich 2-1 Watford
Result: Norwich 1-3 Watford
Pukki - Bonaventure, Sarr x2
The one real shining light for Norwich is they know Pukki will always be good for a goal. Bottom of the league, they are not breaking any expectations and should, unfortunately, be down again at the end of the season. Watford has impressed in both their wins so far, all things considered, will be reliant on the pace and creativity of Sarr to see them stay up.
Predicted: Aston Villa 3-2 Everton
Result: Aston Villa 3-0 Everton
Cash, Digne OG, Bailey
Rafa Benitez will not be impressed with how his team played. Famed as the defensive tactical coach, Everton is still getting to grips and finding their rhythm, despite a fantastic start to the campaign. Aston Villa is beginning to see the rewards for their summer spending, with Bailey impressing even though he was subbed on and off in the game.
Predicted: Brighton 1-3 Leicester
Result: Brighton 2-1 Leicester
Maupay, Welbeck - Vardy
It has been one of those weeks for Leicester. No travel for their midweek European exploits, but the tough opposition that was Napoli obviously took its toll. They are currently languishing in the same places as Arsenal, and for a team determined to get back to the elite of European football, things need to improve. Vardy scored again on his 250th Premier League appearance for Leicester, but VAR intervened on Lookmans and Ndidi goals as Barnes was deemed offside on both occasions. Brighton has their own dubious penalty given, but they rode their luck in the game and deserved the win.
Predicted: West Ham 3-3 Manchester United
Result: West Ham 1-2 Manchester United
Benrahma - Ronaldo, Lingard
David Moyes will be disappointed after the high of the midweek victory in Zagreb to not have secured the draw. Lingard returned to show West Ham what they are missing and also atoning for his midweek error. Both teams will be looking to maintain their good starts to the season and even though West Ham lost they are showing to be a very strong unit. Ronaldo and back and making his mark. If they can get a return of at least a goal a game it will have been one of Manchester Utd's best moves in the market for a long time. Mark Noble, 34, came on in the 90th just to take the penalty. It was poor, he missed, but he will still step up again when needed.
Predicted: Tottenham 1-2 Chelsea
Result: Tottenham 0-3 Chelsea
Thiago Silva, Kanté, Rudiger
In many ways similar to Liverpool, Chelsea is setting a strong pace at the opening of this season. The second half really showcased how powerful and dominant Chelsea can be. Nuno will have to get his tactics spot on going forward, as that's twice in a row Spurs have conceded three goals with no response. He also needs to find a way to get Kane on the scoresheet, as without him Spurs are lacking suitable alternatives. Tuchel has brought a golden touch to London and is getting maximum energy and effort from his players.
