In Stronghold decisions are often made through a process known as governance voting. This allows token holders, like you and me, to have a say in how the project develops. Stronghold, a company that provides financial services and payment solutions using blockchain technology, will launch its 3rd Governance Vote at 9-13 September. Before we dive into the details, I want to make it clear that I don’t work for Stronghold, and the explanations of the three voting options are just my personal views. Stronghold hasn’t officially explained these options yet, so I strongly recommend that you do your own research before casting your vote.

What Are APIs and Why Do They Matter?
APIs are like the middlemen that allow different software programs to communicate with each other. In the case of StrongholdNET, APIs help connect traditional banking systems with blockchain technology. This connection is crucial for making crypto transactions smoother and more accessible to everyone.
In this vote, Stronghold is asking its community to choose which type of API they should focus on developing first. There are three options, and each one serves a different purpose. Let’s go through them one by one.
Option 1: Distributed Ledger to US Bank Stablecoin Payment APIs
What does this mean?
This API would focus on connecting Stronghold’s blockchain ledger with US banks to handle payments using stablecoins. Stablecoins are a type of cryptocurrency that is pegged to a stable asset, like the US dollar, which means their value doesn’t fluctuate as much as other cryptocurrencies.
Why is this important?
Stablecoins are gaining popularity because they offer the benefits of cryptocurrency—like fast transactions and low fees—without the wild price swings. By developing this API, Stronghold would make it easier for businesses and individuals to use stablecoins in everyday transactions, knowing that their value will remain consistent. This could be particularly useful for international transactions, where exchange rates can be unpredictable. Moreover, businesses that operate on thin margins can benefit from the stability that stablecoins offer, avoiding potential losses that could occur due to cryptocurrency volatility.
Example:
Imagine you run a small business and want to accept payments in stablecoins. With this API, your customers could pay you using stablecoins, and the payment would be settled directly into your US bank account. This would make it easier for you to manage your finances because the value of stablecoins remains consistent.
My opinion
This fits better only for merchants but not the best option for $SHx investors.
Option 2: Distributed Ledger to US Bank USD Settled SHx Payment APIs
What does this mean?
This API would connect Stronghold’s ledger with US banks to handle payments using SHx, Stronghold’s native cryptocurrency, but the payments would be settled in US dollars.
Why is this important?
For those who want to embrace cryptocurrency but still need to operate within the traditional financial system, this option offers the best of both worlds. It allows users to make transactions in SHx but receive the payment in US dollars, which is what most businesses and individuals are accustomed to dealing with. This could be a stepping stone for more widespread adoption of SHx, as it provides a familiar point of entry for those hesitant about diving straight into the world of crypto. It also offers businesses the opportunity to explore cryptocurrency without worrying about the volatility that comes with holding digital assets directly.
Option 2 does two things:
- Connects Stronghold’s ledger with US banks: This means businesses and individuals can use SHx for payments, but the actual settlement would happen in US dollars. In other words, even though SHx is used, the payment will be converted to dollars behind the scenes.
- Rewards merchants with SHx: This means that when businesses use Stronghold's network for payments, they get rewarded with SHx tokens. For you, this could result in special offers or discounts from merchants, as they may pass on these rewards to attract more customers.
In everyday life:
- The API connection part makes using SHx more practical because everything can still be settled in dollars, removing the complexity of using cryptocurrency.
- The rewards part incentivizes businesses to adopt SHx, which could lead to more businesses offering crypto-friendly payment options and even giving customers (like you) deals to encourage spending through Stronghold’s network.
Example:
Let’s say you’re a freelancer and your client wants to pay you in SHx tokens. With this API, you could receive the payment in SHx, but the money would be converted and deposited into your bank account in US dollars. This would give you the benefits of using cryptocurrency while still being able to use the cash for your daily expenses.
My opinion
This option is ideal for $SHx investors who want to drive widespread SHx adoption, and it’s also beneficial for merchants. Since merchants on StrongholdNET are rewarded in $SHx they could use these tokens for their purchases.
Option 3: US Bank to Distributed Ledger SHx Settled USD Payment APIs
What does this mean?
This API would enable US banks to send payments through Stronghold’s platform, where transactions would be settled using SHx tokens. Even though Stronghold operates on the Stellar blockchain, this system would facilitate smooth and efficient payment processing with SHx as the settlement currency.
Why is this important?
This option opens the door for traditional financial institutions to interact directly with the blockchain. It would allow for payments made in US dollars to be seamlessly converted into SHx tokens, broadening the utility of SHx within the financial system. This could be particularly beneficial for businesses or service providers that want to encourage the use of SHx without requiring their customers to directly deal with cryptocurrency. It also makes it easier for people who are new to crypto to participate, as they can make payments in dollars and not worry about the complexities of acquiring and managing SHx themselves.
In everyday life, this means that if you use a bank that partners with Stronghold, you could make payments or transfers through the Stronghold platform, and those transactions would be settled in SHx tokens. It would offer a faster, more secure, and potentially cheaper way to move money, especially for businesses that deal with large volumes of transactions. Essentially, it would bring cryptocurrency, specifically SHx, into more mainstream financial systems, making it easier for people and companies to use SHx tokens in daily transactions.
Example:
Imagine you’re a customer who wants to pay for a service using US dollars, but the service provider only accepts SHx tokens. With this API, you could make the payment in US dollars, and the system would automatically convert your payment into SHx tokens to pay the service provider. This makes it easier for people who are not familiar with cryptocurrencies to still participate in the ecosystem.

Why Is This Vote Important?
Each of these options represents a different way to bridge the gap between traditional banking and the world of cryptocurrency. By voting, you’re helping to decide which of these connections Stronghold should focus on first. The outcome will affect how businesses and individuals can use Stronghold’s services in the future.
