The Ethereum network has now entered the PoS era with the completion of the Ethereum Merge. Questions regarding the status of mining will also be raised in this circumstance.
PoS ETH reduce PoW ETH electricity consumption
According to Vitalik's post-merger claim (from another person) , the world's energy consumption will now fall by 0.2%.
Although this is not a validated claim, but, Buterin has implied that Ethereum's leaving mining means it will no longer use as much energy as it did in the pre-merge PoW era.
Given that Bitcoin now dominates the PoW mining market and that Ethereum, a competing cryptocurrency, is no longer mineable, this could lead to a fresh round of arguments between the two cryptocurrencies.
Since the anti-mining campaign frequently brings up the subject of mining's energy usage, Therefore, Vitalik's assertion presents a chance to start a discussion about the energy usage associated with bitcoin mining that includes environment issues.
Thoughts
I do not side with either one of them, and I cannot stop the debate either. People themselves will choose what they like. But I will support freedom of economy depends on decentralisation, so both BTC and ETH are important, both PoW and PoS are important.
