Nearly Free Living: Nevada UPDATE

By MarvinScottMarvin | Cryptic Musings | 13 Aug 2024

Change has arrived in the Nevada boondocks. For some this is a welcome development, but for many others it is another manifestation of a troubling trend in the boondocking community.

Due to the inconsiderate, rude and disgraceful behavior of a few people who have no discipline or respect, the dispersed camping site most convenient to Las Vegas has been permanently closed to the public.

Strike Government Wash from the list.

I always thought the signs for Government Wash were some odd advertising. Does anyone buy it? Has the government ever come clean on anything?

Yeah, I got jokes.

The public property known as Government Wash is now permanently closed to the public; no joke!

Seriously, if you're going to attempt living in the boondocks, you need to respect the land. If you are a nuisance, you will be removed, one way or another. Keep your campsite clean and leave no trace when you depart.

When I published the site list for Nevada, I emphasized the rules of boondocking before naming a single site. If you can't abide by the very simple rules, then, you don't belong in the boondocks.

You shouldn't be afraid to go boondocking, but I will make you aware of the fact that out in the boondocks are some dangerous people who only want to be left alone. When trashy jerks arrive nearby, these folks may be tempted to engage in extrajudicial solutions to the problem.

Remember: no one else knows exactly where you are, civilian GPS is not accurate, and you could disappear very easily.

So, if you're a trashy tweaker or some other variety of scumbag, stay in the city, City Boy. You trashy bastards are damaging to the very freedom you wish to enjoy. Your inconsiderate actions are going to be used to bolster arguments for more human exclusion "wilderness zones" and advance Agenda 21. Clean up your act.

However, if you are a good person who accepts responsibility for their own actions and has respect for the beauty of wild Nevada, then, you are welcome to roam the boondocks.

To be 100% accurate, Government Wash has been closed to motor vehicles and overnight camping. You may still hike, bike or ride horses through the area. My point still stands firm.

Respect the land or be removed from it. Which way will you go?

Is PublishOx surreptitiously editing my blog, or is it the work of government spooks? What other explanation is there? Can anyone tell me why the editor is refusing to retain these links no matter how many times I press the "save" button?
