Challah Bread French Toast with Fruit
This has become a tradition in my household- my daughter and rest of family love it! Few years ago I was fortunate enough to find challah bread in a store that was baked at a local bakery. Since then this is always a request. I've made challah bread too a few times from scratch, so if you don't have a local store/bakery that sells it, its' not tough to make just a little time consuming - well worth the wait though!
Recipe for Challah Bread from scratch:

Serving: 4
Indredients
- 1 Challah bread loaf
- 3 Large eggs
- 1/2 Cup milk
- 1/2 Teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 Teaspoon Pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of nutmeg
- 2 Tablespoons butter
- Maple Syrup
- Fruit - you pick what you want on top (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, bananas, etc.)
Instructions
- Combine eggs, milk, cinnamon, vanilla, and nutmeg in medium size bowl. Beat until well mixed.
- Slice challah bread to 3/4" slices
- Warm up griddle (325-375°F) and melt butter. If you don't have a griddle a large skillet will work on stovetop - medium heat.
- Once butter is melted and spread out evenly over griddle or skillet, one slice at a time, dip challah slice into egg mixture and turn a few times. Don't oversoak the slices or they may not cook properly/ you'll run out of egg mixture real fast.
- Cook slices of challah bread on griddle/skillet until golden brown on bottom then flip (about 2-5 mins).
- Cut desired fruit to go on top of french toast.
- Top cooked french toast with berries and syrup - ready to serve!
I'm a huge fan of breakfast meat candy (i.e. bacon and sausage). This goes great with either!
