It is truly worrying that in this day and age when everyone seems to be amazed at all that technology has done for humanity, there is still a debate as to whether the life of a human being is worth more or less than that of any other human being for reasons as trivial as the amount of money someone owns or their skin color. It would be thought that so many centuries of wars and disputes between human beings would have helped us a little to understand that the way to try to evolve as human beings is to try to think a little less about ourselves and start thinking more about others. But it is worth asking: Is this really possible, within human nature?
Humans tend to think only of our well-being and that of those closest to us. What has to happen so that as a collective, we become aware of the damage that our selfish actions cause to others?
