Today was the day for Topps MLB NFTs to go live on the WAX Blockchain and to partake in it I literally scheduled my lunch around the launch to be ready for it! Personally, this has been a long time coming with how poorly MLB Champions turned out. When I first checked in on it today I was pumped to see they were doing a stress test so there were free packs available! These packs each contained one NFT and it was a coin with the options being Gold, Silver, Bronze, and wooden which was the common one and the one I pulled.
The Topps cards in two different sets which were only able to be purchased via credit card. You could not use WAX and personally, this made a ton of sense as they were trying to bring a bunch of new people to NFTs and trying to get them to understand crypto and WAX was a tall order. I expect in the future that there will be both options.
The launch had to be delayed 30 minutes due to the heavy traffic and then when they did the payment processer, Stripe, also got overwhelmed and practically failed. To get the two standard and two premium packs that I did I spent roughly 20 minutes working the computer to get through all the way and my confirmation email. When I tried to secure a couple more packs it did not work out for me as while the charge initially was there it was refused later on.
So how did it go with the packs I got? Well, the first option was the standard pack, there were 50,000 up for sale, and it contained 6 cards for the price of $4.99 and had the following odds:
With the 2 standard packs, I did pretty well in the first one I was able to get a Rare and two Uncommons and in the second one, I pulled 1 Uncommon with the rest being COmmons.
The Premium I was unsure if I would open or sell at first because how the $99.99 pack was reselling for $200+ since there were only 24,000 of these packs available. At first, I decided to open one and then once I did I could not help myself but open the other. The odds for this one are as follows:
The first pack led me to cop a Super Rare, 2 Epic Exclusives, and a 17 Rares with both Gold Base and the even cooler Rainbow ones that shine showing the rainbow effect! With this pack alone and the players I got, I made back everything as I copped multiple NFTs with mint numbers of less than 81. Even better was some of the ones that were common or uncommon had great numbers like ending in a 0 or 5.
With the second pack, I got my first Epic and actually got two of those! Both of them were even mint number 7! This number carries an even higher premium. Again I was able to get multiple Super Rares and Rares whose mints were under 50 out of 79 or 150 depending on the set. I loved the effects that they carried and the fact that they are trying to encourage trading.
In a few days, they will be hosting an event that will discuss the burning or sets of certain cards to receive other cards! I really really like this approach and honestly, I saved money buying my baseball cards this way! All told the $209 I spent in NFTs is worth over $700 right now according to WAX! Quite a steal if you ask me!
