As a huge MLB fan, I was really surprised when MLB attempted to break into the crypto and blockchain market roughly 3 years ago during the 2018 baseball season! Long story short and whether it was due to the COVID pandemic and the season being messed up the initial partner Lucid Sight's contract with MLB and the Players Union was terminated. Major League baseball then said that they did have some things in the works about NFTs but not a lot was initially announced in March of 2021.
Fast-forward to April and Topps (a huge baseball card creator for MLB) announced that after the success of the Garbage Patch Kids on the WAX Blockchain that they would be releasing a series of baseball onto the WAX Blockchain. I was quick to just aboard the WAX train and try to learn about the blockchain as much as I could. The only previous experience I had had with it was through Banano with their CryptomonKeys NFTs! I learned then that I actually had a couple of rare CryptomonKeys NFTs which was really cool to see!
When the launch day rolled around it was pretty messy, to say the least. Due to the high demand, the release was delayed 15 minutes and then people continued to struggle to get in. I was lucky enough to purchase 2 Standard Packs and 2 Premium Packs. The Standard Packs came with 6 cards and cost $4.99 USD apiece and the Premium was $99.99 USD apiece but came with 45 cards including cards that could only be pulled by that pack. I spent a grand total of $209 USD after taxes and everything.
So with the rare CryptomonKeys NFT's the starting value for me was roughly $250-260 USD. Now my inventory is worth $1,307 USD or 4,551 WAX! I have already sold $841 USD or 2922 WAX worth of NFTs! Safe to say I have made my money back on my investment plus been able to buy different cards that I want/like!
A huge reason for this success is I was able to leverage some of the common cards I had that someone needed to craft Redux card packs! Some of these common cards were selling up to $100 apiece or more! Even I spent close to $120 in WAX to buy a common card to craft a Jumbo Redux Pack. From this pack, I was able to pull 4 different cards that have been and continue to sell for over $100 apiece! Each week new Redux packs are announced and so each week new common cards are spiking in price! It keeps the MLB Topps NFT economy moving and each week the Redux cards are limited!
With just a little over a day left with these Redux packs, I cannot wait to see what appears in the next set! On top of the huge price increase in some of the common cards that I seem to always have one or two of it could be like this week where I sell one for one set and buy another for roughly the same price!
