When Brave released the Brave 2.0 roadmap included in it was a rather interesting thing. They were going to launch their own privacy-focused search engine. This really went along with the suite of applications they have been working on that are much more applicable to the common person.
While Brave was founded and continues to be firmly placed in the Web 3.0 realm with BAT rewards and automatic ad blocks the pivot to adding both the Brave News feature and now the Brave Search feature is basic things that will encourage the common man adoption. While initially released June 22 I did not update my browser as I should have initially and actually finally realized it was added because it was popping up on my iPhone. When I noticed that I made sure it was on my computer as well and so far I have been very impressed with the product that was released.
I was a little concerned it would be like a Microsoft Bing as opposed to a Google but so far I have been rather impressed! With my computer, I did have to change the search engine over to Brave and then I just did a basic search and was impressed. When you search for a word, I used the word stock, it immediately pulled up both Top Results and Local Results. Living in Washington, DC that was super cool to see as if you google anything slightly political it can really mess with a Google search. This has allowed me to actually pretty rapidly research different topics I needed for work and has a super simple yet eloquent layout.
While I have run into a few hiccups along the way and just plain odd results with the search engine still in Beta I am extremely impressed with the result! I was a little concerned with all the things that Brave was wanting to bring that well it was going to be a bunch of half-cooked ideas but that has been far from the case. I thoroughly enjoy Brave News and use it daily now with it easily replacing my use of Google News.
I look forward to being part of Brave continuing to expand its offerings and seeing how they function. As I use it more I am sure I will come across things that I do not like but so far it was been amazing to use. For those who are huge privacy people, I would highly recommend moving over to this browser as it has worked much better than duckduckgo ever did for me.
