Today Brave released an announcement called STATE OF THE BAT: 2021 Recap and 2022 Outlook which you can read here. I stumbled across this completely by accident while scrolling through my Brave Newsfeed which has really turned out to be a fantastic product offered by the team! As I am sure many of you know Brave Browser had a banner year last year! I was amazed at how well I did ad-wise last year per month I was earning a little over 4 BAT a month on average!
Recap of 2021
In the article, the team highlights the many things that they were able to accomplish but there were some things that they really kind of brushed over. For instance, they highlighted the blockchain game and NFT utilization of BAT however almost all of these instances they listed happened in the first half of 2021 resulting in the loss of momentum on that side of things. One thing that they did work on the entire year was adding cross-chain support to a variety of blockchains including one I had completely forgotten about called Gnosis Chain. They started with adding BSC when it was the hot blockchain but also added Avalance, Polygon, and Solana by the end of the year. Solana and Brave announced in November that Solana will be the default L1 blockchain for the Brave Wallet.
Brave also launch its own Brave Wallet as well as Brave Swap which they are working on building off of in 2022. In late Decemeber 2021 they did release an Android and iOS beta version of Brave Wallet for cell phones. I am happy to see that they have not given up on iOS yet as Apple has banned them from distributing BAT on iOS cellular devices which is unfortunate. In 2021 the total number of people who have opted into ads hit 8 million users and creative content users who accept BAT tips hit 1.3 million as well! Gemini was also added as a support for BAT payouts which is great as they offer staking services for BAT that pays 1.75% APY.
Many major brands also participated in the ad campaigns including Walmart, Ford, Intel, Budwizer, and Amazon thus expanding beyond the crypto heavy adds that there used to be. Ads were also added for the Brave News feed that users can opt into and ads became pretty popular to see popup when you open a new tab! They have also recently partnered with Nouns DAO who has become the first DAO to launch an ad campaign on Brave as well.
So 2022 Additions?!
The Brave team has set the bar very high due to the huge success they had last year! However they are not backing down from the challenge. This year they want to focus on a few areas in particular like BAT liquidity pools on AMM and DEX's also something possibly even better is and auto-earn feature within the Brave Wallet itself removing the need for using even Gemini. They also want to partner with some of the Metaverse projects to make BAT an accepted currency in different metaverses and continue to foster the NFT's that are purchaseable with BAT!
Another huge thing that could lead to implications with Presearch is earning BAT for using the search engine! This would be a very interesting development to take place and I would be interested in using the search engine then. Brave's search engine isn't bad when I have used it but I am just unfamiliar with it. Earning rewards could change my search engine preference!
Lastly for the wallet they are looking to add additional chains including the full integration of Solana I had previously mentioned as well as Bitcoin and Filecoin! They also want to bring dAPP support to the mobile wallet as well as NFT support for mobile devices as well as desktop! While this list may not be near as dynamic as what happened last year I am sure along the way the team will find additional thing to add as well as new partnerships that could further BAT utility which would just add value to the token!
