#MyPublish0xAuthor: You need to follow Scott Cunningham, true story!

By Konima | careykoni | 24 May 2020

While there are lots of amazing and talented contributors on Publish0x, and you can find out all of the latest development in the Cryptoverse from Airdrops to Trading Analysis and Staking to topics on Technology and Science and Culture and Society.

You’ll find engaging well-written posts with a natural flow, filled with lots of great ideas, humour and great information, from the likes of Tomoyan, SkinnerCrypto or Igor Tomić but there are 3 main reasons why I say you should follow Scott Cunningham host of Crypto & Things:

  • He makes complex ideas simple and easy to understand, so he appeals to a wide audience.
  • He’s not biased, he's self-reflective and consistently delivers a range of good content on different platforms.
  • As Scott grows and develops we all grow and develop - knowledge is power and money, and he shares it abundantly.

Simplification is key

The key to being a great contributor on Publish0x is the ability to convey complex ideas simply and that’s something Scott does well. It might be his smooth tone or laid back approach when delivering his videos or podcasts, but whatever it is he always seems pretty chilled.

8.8 on the Grandma scale.

When discussing Crypto & Things (see what I did there) you don’t have to be an Academic, a Broker, a Coder or work in DevOps to understand what he’s talking about, he speaks in plain and simple English. When I finally get around to publishing my posts (which have been sitting on my drive for months), you’ll hear me talking about the ‘Grandma test’, it’s a simple measure I use in usability testing or in user experience design.

Basically, is the user experience friendly enough for your Grandma to understand or get by, will she be confused or frustrated, or will she end up calling you to explain things to her? Well, I’m pleased to say I’d give Scott 8.8 on the Grandma scale, I feel confident enough to say ‘Hey, Grandma I trust this guy to give you the information you’re after, go and check him out on Publish0x’.

A range of great content, concepts and context

It isn't just about explaining complex ideas simply, I mean could start talking about quantum physics, Schrödinger's cat and simplify quantum theory by discussing the differences between 2D, 3D and CG animation, but without context, it won’t help you understand the broader landscape or the big picture.

I like Scott because he’s quite a prolific poster, god knows how he does it because it’s not his day job, but there’s a huge back catalogue over 80 posts on Publish0x (there’s a lot more, but to be honest I got bored of counting). This catalogue provides a huge amount of context and information, which is useful for understanding the changes in the environment, landscape or cryptoverse.

He’s posts consist of a video that is normally accompanied with a short blog, and the topics he’s covered include reviews, interviews, social media platforms and marketing; but ultimately Scott Cunningham and his show Crypto & Things is about crypto, tokens and blockchain technology.

This huge wealth of content provides an enormous amount of value to readers and viewers, other contributors and supports the Publish0x ecosystem. Scott’s quality content supports viewers by helping them to contextualise ideas of other contributors and visa-versa, other great contributors help contextualise Scott's posts. Like other good contributors, Scott helps to raise the bar of good original content, I mean there’s only so many posts about ‘why the Brave Browser is the best’ someone can take, or why we should use your Coinbase referral code. I think the shortest post I’ve seen on Publish0x was the three lines and a couple of emojis.

Together as one, each one teach one

Perhaps this is my strongest point and the main reason for liking Scott Cunningham. I admire his openness, transparency and his altruism. He doesn’t just do what he does, he tells us how he does it and the impact it made - so anyone could try it for themselves if they wished to.

Some of his posts are quite reflective and if seen over time, they are almost like a diary that has charted his success and awards. So rather than keeping all of this knowledge to himself, Scott shares his tips, tricks and techniques freely, which could be to his own detriment - but in actuality, I believe this is why he is so popular and why his show consistency grows at a rapid rate across multiple channels.

Educate, Inform, Inspire!

It almost seems selfless, like it's for the good of the wider crypto community, or perhaps a little naive, could you ever imagine KFC actually telling us their 11 secret spices to make finger-licking-chicken, or VISA deciding to drop their patent for the digital dollar and making it open source. I doubt it! And that’s what makes Scott's open-source decentralised community approach so endearing, as he continues to educate, inform and inspire.

I don’t want to or have the time to do what he does, my academic background means I can barely pass my own ‘Grandma test’, that’s why I haven’t published much on Publish0x, I'm not sure everyone’s ready for my White Papers that discuss International Relations and Global Policy from an emerging tech perspective just yet, (however, I'm proud to see SkinnerCrypto making great strides in this area). But if you did, and you wanted to continue to monetise yourself on Publish0x and other channels, Scott’s given you a Roadmap for free and the occasional tip.

If you don’t know, know you know, and if you want to know more, check out some of his great content on Publish0x:

A critique

I guess I wouldn’t be a good contributor if I wasn’t a little critical, I mean I don’t know Scott personally, this isn’t a bromance, and nor am I being paid to write this, however, if I was going to be a critic or offer constructive criticism I would say:

  • It would be great if Scott published more original content just for Publish0x, #JustSaying.
  • While he has mastered his presenting style and it’s pretty flawless, we rarely see a glimmer of personality or humour in 1-2-1 videos.
  • Yes, we know Scott loves LBRY and yes we know LBRY loves him, but as with multiple posts about the Brave Browser, my Grandma wants something more rather than more of the same.

#MyPublish0xAuthor

Well, that's it, ladies and gents, that’s why I think you need to start following Scott Cunningham. He is one of the many talented contributors on Publish0x, but he is my chosen Publish0x Author because of his simple and friendly approach, the broad range of consistently high-quality content, and he seems like he’s a pretty genuinely nice guy that wants to get on and help as many people as he can along his journey.

I hope you enjoyed the post.
