Ethereum researchers Justin Drake and Dankrad Feist have announced that they are stepping down from their roles as advisors to the EigenLayer restaging platform. The decision comes after months of controversy and concerns about potential conflicts of interest.
The revelation of Drake's link to EigenLayer last May sparked an intense debate within the Ethereum community. With EigenLayer positioning itself among the main DeFi projects on the network, the million-dollar remuneration in EIGEN tokens that Drake allegedly received over the last 3 years, as he admitted, raised serious questions about his neutrality.
Drake publicly expressed regret over the situation, acknowledging that it was a “bad decision.” In an attempt to regain trust, he announced a stricter personal policy that goes beyond the Ethereum Foundation’s guidelines:
“From now on, I will decline all advisory roles, angel investments, and security boards. This personal policy goes beyond the Ethereum Foundation’s recent conflict of interest policy, not because I was asked to, but because I want to signal my commitment to neutrality.”

For his part, Feist emphasized the importance of focusing on the development of the Ethereum mainnet. His resignation from EigenLayer aligns with this priority, making it clear that his primary commitment lies in strengthening the fundamentals of Ethereum .
“Eigenlayer is a great project that I hope will continue to complement Ethereum well in a number of ways. But Ethereum has a lot of important work to do and I will focus all my attention on getting it done.”

The Ethereum Foundation, under pressure from the community, had promised to formalize a conflict of interest policy.
“It’s clear that relying on culture and individual judgment has not been enough, and we have been working on a formal policy to address this issue for some time now. We will accelerate this work and share an update soon,” Aya Miyaguchi, executive director of the Ethereum Foundation, said in a May statement.
Although this policy has not yet been officially published, Drake's decision suggests that the entity is moving in this direction.
