The number of active addresses holding cryptocurrency reached a new all-time high (ATH). According to data from the analytics platform Token Terminal, that metric reached 1.2 billion accounts holding some cryptocurrency balance on September 15.
Within that total, Ethereum leads with 262 million active accounts, followed by BNB Chain with 235 million. Third, fourth, and fifth place go to the Tron, Ton, and Near Protocol networks. Bitcoin comes in seventh, with 74 million.

It's worth remembering that each active account does not exactly correspond to a person, as the same individual or institution could manage multiple addresses. The sustained growth in the number of active addresses is an indicator that more users are interacting with cryptocurrency networks, whether for investment, savings, or using cryptocurrency-based applications. Thus, these types of metrics offer insight into the evolution of global adoption of cryptoassets.
