So the EU says it wants to ban anonymous crypto accounts and privacy coins by 2027.
When it comes to anything and everything, the UE is always late, often wrong, and always confused.
First of all, 'ban anonymous crypto accounts'.
What does that even mean? What does the expression 'crypto account' mean?
Do they mean account on, say, Binance or Coinbase? Because if that's the case, those are not anonymous.
Crypto exchanges require ample amounts of personal data when you sign up.
Or do they mean accounts as in wallets? Because those are unbannable.
Sooner or later authorities will finally understand 'ban' is a word you simply can't use in crypto.
"It don't work that way, Pete," as an old meme used to say.
They also say they want to ban privacy coins, like Monero.
Again, what does that mean?
The UE might be able to force crypto exchanges to remove Monero for EU users, but when it comes to wallets, again, how do you ban it?
Do they mean they want to remove Monero from non-custodial and custodial wallets? How?
Do they mean they want, say, Apple and Android to remove Monero wallets from their app stores?
Sure, they can do that. Except, I can easily go to my App Store and switch my account to a different region and download it again.
The world is changing, and the UE is doing everything it can to shoot itself in the foot.
